Not impressed

Who is with me on this? Hunting elk with a rifle in the rut, does not seem very difficult. I hunt elk with a bow, finding them is not the hardest thing to do, but getting close enough for the shot is. If I had a rifle, elk down! I don't have a problem with guys buying these hunts, just doesn't seem as fair to the elk.

I'm ok with it, as long as rifle hunts during the rut are small in tag numbers. Naturally there will be a much higher success rate so this must be reflected in management.
It can take an Arizona resident 12-15+ years to draw a September rifle tag and I have no problem with that.

I'd definitely rather those tags go to the primitive weapons...I'd prefer more tags with less success rates than single tags with great success rates....would help increase draw odds

it wouldn't bother me so much in this state if some of the archery ''quality' tags would take place during the prime of the rut. but wdfw has already got my opinion on that year after year. especially on the years like last where the archery season closed the 14th? that's not a quality hunting season in my opinion if you were to draw a tag

There are some folks who can't draw a bow back or aren't comfortable with shooting an animal with a primitive weapon. I myself plugged an elk last year with a decent shot only to watch him walk off with my arrow
I'm pretty sure the dudes we later found dressing an elk had finished him off, fortunately.

The permits add in variety for rifle hunters. Rifle hunters general season is usually such a short time frame and the same time each year that they only get virtually the same conditions each year. With the permits, they get bulls around rut or cows in winter. The other methods can get most of that and more just with the general seasons or by hunting under the other weapons tag.

I ment as an over the counter tag. I watch these hunting shows where elk are bugling all over the place and the guy has a rifle tag.

Nobody is buying non-tribal OTC tags and hunting elk in the rut with rifles in Washington.

The anti hunter isn't impressed with the longbowman, the recurve bowman, the compound bowman, the crossbowman, the muzzy hunter, the 30-30 shooter, the long range magnum guy and likely not the 416 tank mounted Barrett either.
If the law permits it and the management is sound who really cares if I'm impressed or not? Stand together or fall as individuals.

That's pretty much it buddy.
Been following and like Rads comment.
For the OP...don't think rifle shooters care if you are impressed or not.

I support any form of legal and ethical hunting regardless of my personal preferences.

I think it is a great idea. Let the rifle hunters experience what I do every September. Nothing beats chasing screaming bulls period.
