Kuiu Sale
« on: June 09, 2015, 12:03:52 PM »
Kuiu hasnt had a decent sale in a while. Unless a guy had time to get to Dixon, CA.

Does anyone know if they are planning a fathers day sale or a 4th of July sale?

Havent heard nothing yet. Lot of stuff on eBay since they had their garage sale. Seemed like a few guys just went in to 're sell and make money. All of it is going for full retail or more.  I bit off a big chunk the last couple days so a Sale would Mark me angry.  :chuckle:

Every month I have called around the first week to get a update, and every time they've told me oh you will have your stuff by the first of the month.  LOL right July.

Doubt they'll have a sale so quick after the garage sale. Just got the Alpines and Peloton 200 shirts Friday so stuff is starting to show. Thanksgiving is a big sale for in stock items and they usually have pretty good stock that time of year. I would like to see a sale soon so I can pick up some insulation and the 3200 pack

I know its a long time to wait but look at this way, you're probably not going to wear the guide series this time of year and they dont charge you til it ships. Patience grasshopper!

Ive been thinking of a 3200 pack for short weekends and day trips but its hard to justify the money when I'm really only dropping 4lbs from my Mystery Ranch Crew Cab.

Im thinking I need 4 or so 125 t-shirts and 210 top and bottoms.

Kuiu is a joke. Terrible business model, can't keep anything in stock, can't deliver products in any sort of a timely manner, and they have an arogant dipchit of an owner. Its too bad because they do have some good stuff.

Doesn't mean they aren't dysfunctional as an organization.  I tried going with Kuiu but the availability and customer service from Sitka has been 100% better.

I'm liking them, I sold my tiburons since I never wore them as the attacks worked well during all my hunts. Alpines will definitely get used early archery time will tell if I use them in muzzy and rfile (multiseason). I'm in Puyallup if you want to pm me and we can meet up so you can see them before you buy. That goes for anyone who wants to see some kuiu before they buy.  If it's reasonable I'll meet up with any member who is close by.

Gosh if I am spending $200 on a pair of pants (I have) then I expect to be receiving something I am pretty excited about and some good service to boot.  Premium products should come with at least average service.  There are comparable products out there with much better merchandising systems in my experience.

So move to Wisconsin, then.  The amount of whining you guys do about this company is ridiculous.  If you think there is other stuff out there that is just as good for the same price, wipe the sand out of your vajayjay and go buy it.  "I want my stuff and I want it right now!!!"  Quit crying already.

I've seen a few people complain about their customer service, but the vast majority of reviews are outstanding.

Kuiu builds hunting gear out of more expensive materials than gear that is available just about anywhere, and nowhere in the hunting industry.  Sometimes this results in  products that are better than anything else out there, sometimes it doesn't.  Either way, if they sold their products the traditional retail route  all of you teenage girls would be crying about how friggin' expensive it is.

They started from scratch.  Demand ends up far exceeding forecast.  They forecast much bigger the next year, and demand still exceeds it.  This creates inventory issues.  They forecast much bigger again...

It's obvious many of you don't run a business, and especially one with massive growth.  It's not easy, and it's certainly multiple times harder to please everyone all the time than running the local convenience store is.

BTW- If this is such a terribly run company how are they still in business?  I'll wait for the explanation.

Hit a nerve did it?

You talk about business savvy...then you lash out like a cornered, wounded animal.

I like Kuiu products and would be willing to spend more if I could go the retail route.

I didn't say they were terribly ran, I said they have a premium product and should try to match that with at least an average merchandising service.

There are many exploding companies that find a way to keep customers happier despite longer turnaround times.  How do THEY keep people happy?  I'll wait for an explanation

If they continue to incorrectly forecast that is not a good business model. Essentially they are missing out on potential customers because of their lack of planning.  Btw, i dont think it has anything to do with forecasting, based on what ive read about kuiu their supply chain is pretty shotty. Thats the cause of their shortages.

Nobody ever said their products werent great because they make awesome gear.  You cant argue they arent losing business though because of the wait times to get the gear.

These threads always make me laugh. Especially the comments by some who were literally JUST preaching Kuiu gear a few months ago. Every Kuiu item I own has been great so far, and have only had to call them once about a simple question which was answered by an easily understandable, fairly knowledgeable person. Their business model is different, but I think its smart. I'm sure the owners are making a killing... does that make them bad? I love it, this is America! Kuiu gear is in high demand, I see that as a good thing, and I'll wait my turn for quality gear. Fortunately for me I've only had to wait two weeks at the most, but I buy most my stuff in the off season.

Id be interested to hear the stories of the so called terrible customer service? I have ordered quite a few times from them and only ever had one item that was on back order and they communicated that to me. Every time I have called I have had excellent customer service and I even called and asked if I could add to the backordered item when it shipped because they were giving me free shipping. He said of course, and I told him what to add. Not trying to say that you guys are lying, I truly am just curious what your negative experience was?

Every time I have ordered something that wasn't on back order I was surprised how quickly it arrived. I have been more than happy with everything I have ordered from them and will continue to do so unless I have a very negative experience. In my humble opinion I think Jason has an ingenious business model and I love the fact that they don't sell their gear to other venders who jack the price through the roof like Sitka. Cut out the middle man and the customer benefits. You get a top of the line quality without the retail mark up. I'm on board with that; and the comment earlier about Jason Hairston's character as a human being was the first negative thing I've ever heard about the guy. I do not know him on a personal basis. I've only heard positives though.

I don't know how to answer your question of how others companies with long lead times keep their customers happy. I'd love to hear one though, I work for a company with what is considered a long lead time (4-5 weeks) and we are constantly trying to improve on it, but still get complaints constantly.

My perception is that Kuiu as a company and Jason as the owner is not overly concerned with forcasting for future clientele. They have been in business for several years now, with Jasons experience at Sitka I would assume forcasting for probable demand would not take this long to dial in.

I think they are satisfied with the growth for now. And they have done a good job of garnering faithful folks. I will admit I think overall they make some pieces that are the "best",  But where I get lost is when I hear descriptions of "vastly superior" and "best in the industry" at "much cheaper"... Its comical. Sure they offer a slight edge in some pieces for some folks, fit and function being a factor for many. Comparing other top tier brands Sitka is the only one that really "costs" more from a dollar msrp standpoint. But when you consider you can try it on readily, and many stores compete for pricing, and used is much more readily available then all of a sudden it doesnt seem so bad.
