Late Rifle hunt In Pogue
« on: June 16, 2015, 05:33:40 AM »
After 12 years of putting in and a few days up there turkey hunting....I am stoked. Already looking over the area and my buddy drew it last year. The 280AI is ready to bark. Is it Nov yet and has the snow fallen?

He shot about a 26" spread 4X4....the fronts and backs forks could have been a deeper. Think he said it scored about 143....for his first Muley he was happy.

Your will have a fun hunt. Drew it in 2010.
The more snow the better but always plenty of bucks in that unit that time of year..

Drew in this tag in 2007. Hunted the fire lines and clear cuts on the last weekend. Saw a small 3 x 3 shot. While the hunter was gutting it out, a monster buck stepped out but it was too late because he already filled his tag. I showed up shortly after the encounter. I ended up shooting a doe an hour before the season ended.

Are you serious? This is an "any buck " tag, and as I far as I can remember it has always been that way. So, you shot a doe with an any buck tag???

Nope...go back and read the 2007 game laws. I essentially drew the same tag but it was "Any Deer" and covered 5 GMUs. I choose to hunt around Concunully because my family owns 1 of the 3 resorts up there. We know the area well, so I spent most of my hunt walking the fire lines. Like I would risk my hunting privileges over a doe. C'mon man..

You drew a whitetail tag in western GMU's of the county. That's a lot different than the tag the OP drew, hence the confusion to saying you drew the same tag and shot a doe. Also, I was confused with the OP drawing the Pogue tag and you saying you hunted the "fire lines".  You must have been in a different GMU, because the Pogue didn't have fire lines in 07, from the Tripod.

My tag was not a white tail only tag. It was "any deer". It essentially the same hunt as the original poster, except I could shoot any deer and hunt multiple GMUs.

The Tri-Pod fire started July 4th 2006 via lightning. Our family resort was evacuated in Conconully. The lake reservoir water was used to help put out the fire. Fire lines were cut all over the backside of Baldy Mtn. We have been snow mobiling and hunting them for years. They were cut it when the wind shifted out of fear the fire would race down the backside of the mountain and burn down Conconully. Perhaps you have not hunted much around that part of the Pogue. They are there or I wouldn't of posted it. Good place to hunt for somebody that does not want to go to far into the back country. I drew my tag the year after the big fire (2007) and had success. Had I had more time to hunt, I would have got a nice buck. I only hunted the last Saturday and Sunday of the season. Sunday was the last day.

I think you bit off more than you can chew here.  For starters, there has never been an any deer tag in multiple GMU's where you're talking about.  Especially in 2007.  A few very friends of mine drew Pogue late any deer tags that year.  My dad drew a Pearrygin late any deer tag the same year.  There was absolutely no any deer tags covering multiple GMU's there unless you drew the gov or raffle tag that year.

You're more than welcome to keep going with this, but I can assure you, it wouldn't be in your best interest. :twocents:

I looked in the 2007 regs:
1035 Pogue A Nov. 1-18 Any deer GMU 233 15 687

It says any deer but does not cover multiple GMUs

......and if you were hunting the "fire lines and the clearcuts" you weren't in the Pogue unit, but rather the Pearrygin unit.

Let the backpedalling start...........
