My First Elk - a Bull

Shot this one on 09-16-15 at a distance of 8 yds - in an undisclosed western Washington location. All spot and stalk. He didn't even bugle or respond in any way to our calls. Taxidermist said he was a 5 1/2 year old bull and would go over 300". I got over 400 lbs of meat from him and 2 large beautiful ivories.

As far as packing - I estimate it was about 20' to the truck that I drove up to it! He was near a rudimentary forest service road that was closed down for years and I was able to get my truck to. I got real lucky because it would have been a mile hike up some steep stuff to get him out! The whale tails are all I saw when I had looked down on him from a ridge above. Took about 30 minutes to get down thru some reprod, over a creek, and back up to him with the wind in my favor. He only went about 50 yds and dropped within sight. I shot him with three arrows before he got more than 20 yds from me - it was a semi-auto bow!
I'll take him to the Sportsman's Show in Puyallup in January so everyone can look at the antlers. I'm proud of him.

Cool and I love the arrow sticking out of it too, most won't show that, but I do and that's all that counts.
