Grouse Shell Capacity
« on: September 30, 2015, 09:34:47 PM »
Getting into grouse hunting since I have been seeing so many during archery deer.  Seems to be mixed information regarding capacity for hunting grouse.  The printed regs would seem to state that its a 3 shell limit(game birds), but then I found this on the WDFW website - "Forest grouse are classified as small game. Nontoxic shot regulations for upland game birds do not apply to forest grouse. Nontoxic shot regulations that apply to the hunting of all wildlife do apply to forest grouse."

http://wdfw.wa.gov/help/questions/93/If+I%27m+hunting+in+a+WDFW+Wildlife+Area+for+wild+turkey+or+forest+grouse%2C+do+I+need+to+use+nontoxic+shot%3F

Thoughts?

Not sure what your question is but for grouse I'd use nothing but lead and your shotgun must be plugged so it only holds three shells.

Wondering what shell capacity is for grouse.  On the WDFW site it states grouse is classified as small game.  The line before it states that turkey are classified as game birds.  So is it stating the grouse dont fall under the game bird 3 shell capacity?

:yeah: but if you use a .22 you can use as many as you can make the gun hold .

I like the 3 shell rule, but it's always struck me as odd that I can grab the .22 or .17 next to the shotty and put in a 10 round clip in and start plinking heads. :dunno:
