Bought a set of 12x50 few months back, they worked very well in hunt in AZ.  Nice and clear, not sure you can find much of anything to equal them for the price.  Vortex also has a phenominal no fault warranty.

I'M Nikon Monarch 5.  Side by side, I think they're better than the Vortex Diamondbacks.  I got my Nikon in 10x50.  I live in  and hunt on the dry side though.

At the 10X level, the glass and coatings are much more important than at 8X and lower.
Personally, I would look for a higher-quality used set or save a few more dollars  to get better quality.
Wouldn't even consider 12X.

I had the Diamondbacks and they are OK, but there is a huge jump in quality to the Talons.  If it were me, I would find some junk in the garage to sell on Craigslist or eBay to come up with the extra money for the Talons.

The "42 or 50" would be the objective lens size, in millimeters. Most people go with the 42mm or smaller because when you get up to 50mm the size and weight can be a bit much.

  atleast at that price range. just get the Nikon monarch 5 10*42 and you wont be dissapointed
