Any opinions on rangefinder: Nikon vs Leupold?
« on: November 23, 2015, 04:50:46 PM »
Cabela's has the Leupold RX-1200i on sale for $299.99 + tax (good through 11/23).  Their Black Friday insert just arrived and shows the Nikon ProStaff 7i on sale for $249.99 + tax.

Anybody out there who knows both products, and can comment?

I used to have a Nikon then lost it. I liked it. Seemed accurate. I bought the same Leupold a month and a half ago and like it a lot. Love the red display. Easy to see in low light. There were many times it was light enough to shoot but couldnt see my numbers on the range finder with the black display my Nikon had. Either one is a good product. Leupold usually has fantastic customer service if you ever have an issue. It has a could ithe features the nikon does not and thats why I chose it this time. Hope this helps.

I use nothing but Leupold on my guns for scopes. Love em and no problem. Was going to buy Leupold for the rangefinder, but the Nikon was on sale. I have used it for two years and no problems. I am sure that there is not much difference between the two. Both good companys

Had a Leupold and was disappointed.  It was weak.
Bought a Leica and am extremely pleased.  Ranges farther than I care about and in nasty weather too.

I have two Leupold rangefinders. I would NOT recommend getting a Leupold rangefinder.

I've looked through all three mentioned here, in the field. I own Leica. Its optics are brighter than the other two, hands down. but it sometimes doesn't care to return a range  :bash: My buddy's Nikon seemed to be better at ranging consistently.

I have a Nikon prostaff and have since upgraded to the Leupold 1200i TBR/DNA. The Leupold is awesome and I have 2 buddies that have the same one. Very good glass and has great features. I wouldn't get the Nikon. Mine fogs up all the time and wont pop a range past 200 yards even though it is a "800" model. I use it for golfing now.

I like Leicas, but between the two you are choosing from I would opt for the Nikon. I've owned two Leupolds and didn't care for either, and I really tried to. ;)
