That is base salary.   You also get a location add on.  A GS 11 here in this area because it is the Seattle area gets paid more then a GS 11 not near a big metro area.  Say northern Minnesota.

You must have 1 year experience at the GS-10 level or GS-11 level.  Pay is 63722.00 for GS-11 step one for that area and 76378 for a GS-12 step one.  PCS costs are not authorized so it is a DYI move.  You also must meet the KSA's for the job.  Sounds like a great job though!

Indeed. It would be both a step DOWN in pay and a step UP in cost of living. Plus my kids currently go to a FREE charter school that is nationally ranked. I currently work more hours than I would have to at that job, but with commuting I'd be out of the house more hours per week as D.C. has grown hand over fist under God-King Obama. It would essentially be a selfish move--lowering my familys standard of living just so I can enjoy work more. We as husbands and fathers must sacrifice ourselves for our family. This is the agape love. Watch me sacrifice

Can't argue that. IMHO there shouldn't even be a NPS, nor a USFWS, nor a USFS. Why can't the states manage it? If its not inherently delegated to the federal government by the Constitution, why does it even exist?

If I am correct, though I rarely am, this is the same position that was held by Ansel Adams. 
I think there'd be much opportunity to get out in the field and take my coffee in a thermos 

Not to impugn photography's demi-God Ansel, but a big factor in his success was simply living in Yosemite all those years. Just like hunting: scouting, training, and gear account for a lot, but getting that trophy shot sometimes boils down to how much time you spend in the field.

I know an ex-police officer from DC.  He told me that there is NO amount of money worth moving there.  Said, "Most US Senators refuse to have a residence there!  They know that rats are drawn to sewage."

Though I believe my brother, who lives in MD, is allowed to tag seven deer a year if he hunts archery, muzzy, shotgun, doe and buck in all the right ways.  Says farmers are always asking him to come kill a doe.  He loves it there even if the whole family now has lyme disease.  He was always the common sense challenged one in the family

There are some nice little communities around DC but the cost of living is high and traffic is horrible.  It is a great place to visit and they have tons of things to do.

Nope, sorry. Some other lucky dog will get to influence a generation of outdoor photography and the National Park Service with his or her own introverted psyche. I wish him or her well in what could possibly be the best job in the world, IMHO. As much as I would love to see my art in the National Archives for decades if not centuries to come, my best influence on the world is in the handful of children God has blessed me to raise. I just couldn't attempt to do both responsibly right now--perhaps a better man could. We are all given 30-50 working years to make our mark on the world, but only about 10 of those years to influence our progeny and posterity (ie your childrens first and most formative years). Right now I'm pretty much centering most of my life around that calling. Fortunately I'll still get to play around with the camera some--seems as though my wedding photo hobby is finding growing demand and is compatible with both my work and family life. Another discovery I've made as of late is that spending too much time on forums isn't serving my higher priorities in life, either, so with that...  This will be my last post for quite some time.
