Tried out my new waterfowler knife!
« on: December 30, 2015, 03:20:09 PM »
Howdy all,

Decided a couple weeks ago to stop using my huge fillet knife and get something more practical for dressing birds. Went out hunting today and bagged a couple birds and low and behold my knife was delivered at the doorstep when I got home! Almost like they knew I would need it  ;)

Works great, I like the shorter blade. Seems to give it more control when I'm breasting out a duck. I ended up with the build up waterfowler made from 154CM steel off their website. All in all super happy!

Great knife. I have one of the original prototypes of this knife. I would have preferred it to not change at all from the one I tested for them but it changed some. Yours is very nice looking!!!

Thanks guys! Think this one is a keeper!

Sako here is the link, they don't have the 154CM steel ones now but they do have the 420HC steel versions for a little cheaper at $40:

http://www.buckknives.com/product/waterfowler-build-out/0493BO1-B/

quite a few good deals on there, I would have grabbed the caping knife too just because its $15 but basically does the same thing the waterfowler will do.

I may need to order me one of those... Or I may just attempt to make one. My brother made something somewhat similar.

If your open for options.  About the best and easiest thing to use for ducks and geese is a small fillet knife.  I have tried all sorts of various knives on birds over the years.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

I use the havalon piranta and it works perfectly.  But, it certainly doesn't look as nice as the Buck.

You know that's exactly what I felt this knife resembled was a paring knife... but I talked myself out of that thought. I NEEDED a new knife specifically for duck hunting.... atleast that is what I told the wife and it worked

If that's what it takes.      :chuckle: It's a nice looking knife.  I've used the Havalon as well, but won't blow a new blade on ducks.

That's awesome, and saved ammo money to boot! Good work!

Used mine on about a dozen birds so far and worked through them without a hitch, think you'll really like that knife!

Meant to ask 92 but how did you end up getting to test the prototype model?
