That's ridicules and pathetic. People like that put a bad name on REAL hunters. Now whenever I go into the woods I have to brings a bag and a brume to clean up other peoples messes so they don't make hunting and shooting illegal in my favorite areas.

It is disgusting, it's only going to get worse as places close to target shooting all around us the problem will continue to compound in those areas still open.

Yep. Like I've mentioned before - theres no doubt money is a factor in charging access, but when people treat the lands like this you're just opening the door for it. Its going to get worse too... WDFW already charges for a Discover pass... wouldn't surprise me if some of the more popular public lands become permit only eventually.

In my time spent stealhead fishing above McNary dam this winter I noticed a significant increase in people target shooting along the Washington bank. Does anybody go there to shoot and if so is the empty shells and broken targets starting to pile up?

I could see the Army Corp of Engineers closing off this area to vehicle traffic back at the paved road below the dam and thus a lot of guys who like to bank fish by the pump station losing easy access to their spot. Maybe its the railroads jurisdiction?

That's gross.  What's even grosser is the first thing I thought was, "oh that isn't even bad!"

There are so many places that are/were shut down that were much worse.  So strange, I've never understood these yahoos that buy $50 of ammunition and run it through their Hi-Points like there is no tomorrow  :dunno:

Thats actually not bad at all in context.  I used to toss trash bags in my truck and a dog pooper scooper rake
like this

works super for raking up shells left behind.

When I was doing a lot of shooting I would take a tarp and shoot from on the tarp to help catch brass.

I have seen appliances electronics and furniture dumped in shooting areas.

How hard is it to pop a few rounds, pick up and go again? grab your target and spent shells when you leave? The sad thing is I see the same thing in duck blinds. How do you call a duck into a garbage pit? Sad!! When you pack it in there it doesn't take any more effort to take it with you when you go. Idiots.

Tickets are written. But the problem is it's such a widely used area you'd basically have to fund one LEO to just work these shooting areas and do nothing else. The USFS finally stationed an LEO in Enumclaw to cover the USFS lands in the area after about a 4 year vacancy. It took congressional pressure (Dave Reichert) for the USFS to fund that position again.

Man that's one nice shooting pit .  The ones I usually see have all the furnishings for a house---got the washer/dryer to set your gun on, the couches and recliners to have a break, some fridges, tables and pallets to light on fire for cold evening shooting, computers/printers to mark the different ranges.

Knuckleheads practicing for the zombies & a few of these people or groups probly don't hunt but because its guns & up in the woods it's hunters who did it, now I'm not saying that some hunters don't do this crap but...we could start having some of the hunter safety instructors show pic's of these areas of what not too do

The worst places I've seen are Sultan basin (which was closed due to too much dumping) and Umtanum out by the pheasant release site.
One day up at Olnie pass I picked up three husky bags of shot shells, didn't even make a dent!
Why do you think Weyerhaeuser and Hancock are charging to let people on their lands? Part of it is to pay for all the bs that needs to get cleaned up all the time.
Sad, a few are screwing it up for the rest of us.

:yeah:  I've spent entire mornings cleaning up brass, shotshells, garbage and targets.

I don't usually try to single out a demographic or user group.  However, I have always found that you can hear the mess-makers from a mile away.  Drinking, hollering, and shooting hundreds of rounds.  As a testament to how sloppy and careless these shooters are, I've found dozens of unfired shotshells at some locations  :dunno:

When I've volunteer with WTA, Earth Corps, etc. for Master Hunter hours I try to talk with people and let them know what I'm doing it for. Trying to break the stereotype that all hunters do that stuff. Trying to show people that we give back and not all of us are drunk meth heads raping the land!

That's the landing up past Mill Creek I think. Disgusting.

Landing is off Abernathy Creek road/E-4000, and a DNR pit near Sarah Creek (Abernathy trib).

That neighborhood gets hammered by dirties.  Dirties with guns, dirties with ATVs, dirties with chainsaws.  As the first significant patch of public land close to town, it gets desperately abused (much like Greenwater, since the 70 road is the first major access to the woods from town, and Sultan Basin, for the same reason).

I've yarded bags upon bags of garbage out of places like this...and it's repopulated the next weekend.  It's really tough for law enforcement to cut paper on this sites, so the best bet is usually to just block them off.  Dirties also tend to be lazy--it's no fun to carry your TV 1/2 mile by hand to shoot it.

Those pictures look like every log landing and gravel pit located in Capital Forest within 3 miles of the highway. What is really sad also when you see live fir trees that were at least 24 inches in diameter shot off 4 feet from the stump. How many rounds does it take to shoot a tree down that size and why?

I dont understand why people don't pick up after themselves. I guess its the same mentality with some smokers and their butts. It only takes an extra 5 minutes tops to clean up your shooting area... the last time I went out with some buddies from work we ended up carting off 3 bags full of trash(I'd say a good 90% wasn't ours) and it took us less than 5 minutes to pick up all of that up.  :dunno:

Best thing you to do is to pick up some of it when you can, although it usually seems like a loosing battle.
