Backcountry Hunters and Anglers

Just curious if there any BHA members on here? They seem to be pushing a great message and their top priorities are protecting public land and keeping it open for public use.

I got a crash course on public lands and whats actually in our best interest as public land hunters. Was shocked by some the information the guys from BHA were throwing out in one of the Gritty Bowmen podcasts I listened to in my way to work the other day. I think it was episode 93.

Really,  keeping public lands open?
Than why are they supporting Wild Olympics's?
Turns second growth mono culture tree stands into wilderness?
No more bicycles?
Roads that could be reopened for forest management gone?
They were supporting when the plan was bigger and much of it would have come under the management of the National Park!

Take a hard look at what they support.  It sounds good but,  they are way into the politics and not really supporting hunters.

Im not familiar with each and every initiative they support but they are in favor of protecting public land from private ownership which i happen to be infavor of. I may be mistaken but i think their objective is to be political and give a voice to all legal public land users of all kinds.

Im still learning myself but i see myself joining in the near future.

Member here.  I'm not a wilderness only guy, and neither is BHA.  Good group of people that work hard to protect yours and my public lands.

I think I met land tawney in passing once and talked to him briefly about BHA. Seemed like a nice guy.

Besides that, I caught his interview with Steve rinella on the meateater podcast and they addressed being accused of being "green decoys" and dismantled that criticism pretty well. I support their goals and don't think much of their criticism. Protecting our wild lands is something I support and I think its okay to take donor money from organizations we don't agree with 100 percent to do so. I plan on joining later this year

I am a member, and will support them in anyway possible. Their support of hunters and our public lands including our access to these lands is second to none. I would highly recommend becoming a member and getting involved. Statements implying or flat out stating that they do not support, or fight for hunters and our public lands is simply pure ignorance.

Sportsmen Support

Sportsmen make the connections between permanent watershed protection, recreational and commercial fishing and hunting access, and healthy habitat for game and other wildlife. They support the Wild Olympics Wilderness and Wild & Scenic Rivers Act because it would protect hunting and fishing access while permanently protecting rivers and roadless backcountry. The Wild Olympics proposal is supported by over a dozen hunting and fishing organizations, including Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association, NW Guides and Anglers Association, Washington Council of Trout Unlimited, Wild Steelhead Coalition, Washington Wildlife Federation; Backcountry Hunters and Anglers -Washington Chapter,  Association of Northwest Steelheaders, Sportsmen for Wild Olympics (Aberdeen), Izaak Walton League of America,Greater Seattle Chapter, Able Guide Service,  (Sekiu), Norrie Johnson Guide Service (Sequim), Little Stone Flyfisher (Port Townsend), Greywolf Flyfishing Club (Sequim), Waters West Fly Fishing Outfitters (Port Angeles),

Ignorant?  I am willing to bet I do far more for hunters and have a far better understanding the environment than you!

No organization that claims to support hunters would support a land grab that is not based on science.

This is a slap in the face to hunters who are trying to maintain access to public lands.

If access was important why would they support this?

I am speaking as someone who works, plays, and hunts in the very public lands they support restricting my access to!

Not that I am anti wolf.  I am not.  So I am one of the few.  However, one has to wonder what their agenda is?

I felt the gooseflesh up and down my spine before I even knew what caused it. The wolf pack had brought down an elk only about three hundred yards from my campsite in the River of No Return Wilderness and began their air raid siren group sing a little before midnight.

Stated my opinion, and I stand behind it. Won't get in a measuring contest. As for betting on personal contribution..... Well don't be heading to Vegas anytime soon. Lol

I am a member and am pretty active in the group.  I like most of what BHA does and stands for and am glad someone is representing backcountry hunters.  There are too few groups willing to take a stand against the groups that want the whole world open to their ATVs under the guise of "access"....
