I don't have a problem with party hunting or fishing I see nothing wrong with it but hey I'm weird like that. If I'm duck hunting with someone and they can't hit the side of a barn I've shot my seven and a single comes in let them shoot at I three times and they get one pellet in the duck but it's still flying is it wrong to kill that duck or should I let it fly away. Hunting and fishing is about spending time with people and putting organic meat on the table their are limits but that's all that should matter. Who does what shouldnt matter as long as your within the groups limits.

I've had long friendly discussions on who shot which bird in the duck blind. Especially a banded goose we got. That went on forever and is still going on to this day

Hunting and fishing are team sports. Well that's how I approach them.

Lets not forget that "by the book" the officer should have charged him with a misdemeanor which would mean mandatory court date, up to a $1,000 fine, criminal conviction, etc.

But instead he charged him with a natural resource infraction that is technically issued to those who own licenses but don't have it on them. Natural resource infractions aren't crimes so they don't appear on a criminal record and realistically are one step above a parking ticket.

It can keep the young man from participating in the Master Hunter program.

And that's the one negative. But we don't even know if he is a hunter. So should officers not write tickets because someday this individual may want to be in the Master Hunter program?

Which agency?

He is on here as a member.  Once he states an agency he could be accused of many things.   I think.  If I am wrong on this BigTex let me know.
In short we should just respect the information and advice he gives.  Even if some disagree.  He goes to great effort to educate us and thus provides us a service that he does not have to.

Reminds me I should say:  Thanks BigTex!

That's correct. I do work in natural resource LE. But I won't say which specific agency.

My money is on the kid was fishing.  Hand me a pole for whatever reason and I will be compelled to wet a line, even if for a few minutes.  As a teenager or even a adult, if caught I would spin a different tale, even if I am a generally a good person.  Fairly harmless and after all we do own the resource.  With that said I buy the license for a day of fishing or clamming because it is the right thing to do in support of our resource.  Just saying I understand and my money is in the young buck fishing.
It's a TIKKA thing..., you may not understand.

I had a similar situation when I was a kid.  15 years old and me and some buddies went fishing.  I had all my licenses and they never left my wallet.  Well a game warden came to check us and I opened my wallet and found my license holder was gone??? Turns out my dad grabbed them to apply for special permits and had not put them back in my wallet.   I explained to the officer I had everything and wondered if he could look it up in the system or something. Nope, wrote me a ticket, went to court and explained it to the judge, showed him my license and the purchase date prior to the infraction and still no mercy, paid my fine and had a grudge against them ever since.  To top it all off it was my fault according to my dad that I didn't check my wallet to make sure someone hadn't taken them out without my knowledge.

When your job description is to ticket legally licensed hunters on technicalities ( your license bitten instead of cut ) this is what you get.  I have very low respect for this type of officer.   :bash:

Any law enforcement position should be on a lottery draw. Citizens can all put a name in the hat and they are drawn randomly. Keep the head strong power trippers out of positions of authority. I work with an ex-cop. He's about as arrogant and power hungry as they come.
