Conflict reduction tags?
« on: April 18, 2016, 03:52:31 AM »
Anybody have anything to do with one of these tags this last year? Contemplating going this route for a goat don't have very many points in the regular goat draw. Thinking this might be the smart choice rather than waiting till I'm old and crippled if I even get the chance then.

Only a smart move if you know the country up there. Some very nasty country they live in, darn near need technical climbing skills. I think the success rate has  only been like 50% since the tag was introduced. Used to be a few goats that wandered down low and maybe if your lucky you could find one of them. But like the tag says, its a conflict reduction tag. The state is trying to scare the goats back up into the steep and nasty to get them away from the day hikers.

Look at the harvest stats I believe there were no goats taken with those tags last year. If you draw and don't get a chance at one you burn your opportunity for life here in Washington. My two cents would be not to apply for them and look at the other areas that have higher harvest rates the odds are pretty much the same to draw.

Someone on here posted about a similar topic earlier and I agree with him if you really want a Goat save for the next five years or so and go to Canada. With approximately 19 points going into this year and closing in on 50 years old I thinking I should have done the same 20 years ago.  :twocents:

With the conflict tag, you don't burn your points for the general goat hunts, they are 2 separate catagories.  The only issue is if you get drawn and are successful in shooting a goat then you are done with your OIL goat in this state, so you have to be picky in the goat you shoot if you want a big one.
