Synthetics on inexpensive stocks are pretty soft and different pressures, offhand , shooting sticks, slings(some of us still use a sling as a shooting aid) or different placements on the sandbag can cause variations in shot placement. That said I've had pretty good luck with factory Savage and Rem stocks by sanding the channel enough so the forend can't touch the barrel whether I'm using a sling or sandbags and if you intend to use with a bipod. Give the forend plenty of room to move.
