A New World-Record Elk?
« on: September 20, 2016, 07:10:13 AM »
A New World-Record Elk?

The announcement was made by Boone and Crockett Club on Friday, but the actual hunt took place earlier in the season somewhere in Montana. The resident hunter, who has chosen to remain anonymous at this time, was reportedly hunting alone during the state’s archery season when he came across the giant elk.

After a successful hunt and a three-day pack out, the hunter took the antlers to a taxidermist, where they were green-scored by a Boone and Crockett Official Measurer at an incredible net score of 429 6/8 inches (448 4/8 inches gross). If it holds up to the 60-day drying period, it would break the current Pope and Young record—412 1/8 inches—by more than a foot of bone.

Not only would it set a new archery record, this bull would also become the No. 4 All-Time Boone and Crockett typical scorer.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I passed on that bull earlier in the season. I was looking for something a little more symmetrical - that sticker on his right Bez tine really turned me off.

Man what a awesome bull, I would love to hear the story on it, hopefully he will share it!  Glad there are still some spots where bulls can get this big and not be on everyone's radar!  Packing that rack out would be the toughest part!
