My new hunting rig?
«
on:
September 26, 2016, 07:30:16 PM »
Needed something better at commuting then my lifted powerstroke, and something I could take to the woods to set trail cams, do overnight trips etc with.
I was looking for a subaru outback, but this Forester fell into my lap, so I went with it for now.
It's a 2001 base model, has 194k miles, heads just rebuilt due to the common head gasket failure, new timing belt, water pump, and radiator.battery is less then a year old with Napa warranty paperwork in glove box, and tires have 4k miles on them from Schwab's.
Pretty clean little car, with maintenance history sense brand new.
I'm gonna put a 1" lift on it, and some all terrains mounted on 15" rims, keep the stock tire and rims for commuting during the summer. A roof rack/box, and some communication gear, and it'll be ready!
Can't wait to get it bloody chasing ducks, it's way nicer to drive then the lifted 3/4 ton!

Nothing wrong with that!
My first hunting rig was a Ford Pinto wagon.

You will love it! I hunt out of a 1998 Subaru Outback, you can fit anywhere, hasn't gotten stuck yet and I can fit a whole elk in the back if I fold the seats down! Turn on the AC and it is even refrigerated!

Holy cow! It's even set up to pull a camp trailer!
That'll be a perfect rig for what you need. Real nice score!

That extra 1" lift should get you a lot further into the back country.

Keep track of the money you save on gas. Based on my funding plan at least 50% goes toward new equipment. You will be amazed that one season can easily justify a new firearm!
