What to build? Hmmmm....... POLL ADDED
« on: December 09, 2016, 09:35:02 AM »
So a while back I did some horse trading for a tikka with the plans of building something off the action.  I'm not wanting a hunting rig with this gun, I'm just looking for something that is enjoyable and affordable to shoot at the range for some long range fun.  Here are some of the options I'm kicking around.  Seems like lots of tension and bickering on here lately with the season over so i figured we need to talk about guns :chuckle:  so lets here those thoughts or recommendations?

Since you do the opposite of what I suggest I would say .260, .243ai, or 6.5 creed.  You did take suggestions on north Idaho hunt area but that didn't turn it so well so maybe you shouldn't of.  :chuckle

I would never do .260ai or 6.5-06AI even though that 6.5-06ai would fit so nicely in that long action..

I wanted a .22-50 BMG AI but apparently it's not a thing :dunno:

That's because it would disintegrate as it left the barrel... additionally you would need the BMG reloading gear and that starts at $1500.

So that must mean a 6.5-06AI would be your first pic? IF he owns everything for an 06 then I'd say it's a cool choice.

In reality I'd say something 6.5

With that action length the 6.5-06 ai would be pretty cool. Or 6.5-284.

But the 115 6mm bullets look pretty awesome pushed fast also.

But ya mostly the best would be the 22-50bmg.

Of the choices you listed I'd go with the 260 REM.  Or the not listed 6.5x284 assuming you have a long action to milk all the performance you can out of the case.
