My brother in law sells them for way more than that.  He actually gets commissioned to do knives, the buyer works with him on what they want out of the knife and he custom builds based on the outline given by the customer.

Big money in custom knife work. It takes a bunch of time as well.  The materials aren't cheap either.  Lots of exotic materials and metals go into them.

really anything custom.  Had a relative that made custom playing cards for all those high roller poker player folks.  Having to hire fifty something (quantity, not age) models--one for each card and the costs were ridiculous.

Didn't the add say "given to by Bob himself"?  I read that to mean that if you bought the knife Bob Loveless would give it to you personally.
