Meindl Western Guide Hunting Boots
« on: October 30, 2017, 08:59:03 PM »
Cabelas has these boots on sale for $199.88, regular price is $349.99. I couldn't pass it up and ordered a pair. So I'm wondering if anyone else has tried these? I figure for the price I can't go wrong. If they don't fit right I'll return them to Cabelas and get my money back. It's not often you can get a good quality leather boot for $200 that's not made in China. Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention- shipping is free right now.

I’ve been wearing a very similar pair of Cabela’s Meindle since last year and love them. Mine are taller & have a different tread, don’t know any other differences.  They’re very comfortable and have been waterproof & durable so far.

My wife has a pair and really likes them.  Here's the thing though, boots are a very individual thing, and they may or may not be comfortable for you.  I didn't like the fit, and have been very happy with my lowa gtx.  She tried that model on and preferred the cabelas.  From what I've seen they look to be a solid choice, and if they fit me better I would have tried a pair.

Anybody know how insulated they are? Did I miss it?

Yeah, no insulation, and that's how I like it. I won't buy boots with insulation. If it's cold enough for insulation I'll be wearing my Schnee pacs.

Brings up another question for me.  Do you hike longer distances in pac boots?

My feet got cold up in the snow in my 400g insulated boots and it got me wondering, but we were 4 miles in.

I have covered alot of miles in pacs and rubber boots. There's no substitute for waterproofness imo. But no matter what they are heavy and I haven't found a pair that can offer the support or comfort of quality hiking type.

For me moisture control is the biggest contributor to cold feet. My feet sweat in pacs and rubber when moving a lot, much more than a lighter boot. The only thing I have found that somewhat combats it is multiple and EARLY sock changes.

Basically if it's very cold, or wet and I'm not moving a lot or fast troughout the hunt, than I may choose a Pac or rubber boot. If I anticipate moving from spot to spot and conditions aren't  real terrible, I stick with hiking types and multiple socks.  Good luck.

I ordered a different Meindl pair that was in the online Bargain Cave last week.  One of the guys I know told me they were the best boot he had ever worn, so I thought I would give them a try.  They are in, I just need to block out some time to go down and see how they fit.

Dangit Bobcat, Why the heck did you have to post that  :bash:

I just ordered a pair. I've been contemplating a new pair anyway. Worth a try

I've been wearing the same pair of Meindl Perfekt Hunters for a really long time and love them. Just wore them throughout the entire goat hunt. I think they're worn out now, but I'd be nitpicking. They've been the best boots I've ever owned and I paid like $68 in the bargain cave at Cabela's.

Well, yes, I do. Or used to. Not so much anymore as I've gotten older and now I try to avoid hunting in snow, and I definitely don't go places where mountain goats live! But I sure do like the Schnees for keeping my feet warm and dry, or if it's not really cold I just wear my Cabelas rubber/neoprene uninsulated boots. The Schnees only get used if it's below 20.

Can't beat it for the price. Just this week I've spent $400 that I didn't even have all because of Cabela's sales. First boots, and then a rifle for my daughter yesterday. So don't blame me, it's Cabelas fault.   :chuckle:
