Nooksack quality elk archery help.
« on: June 21, 2018, 05:02:11 PM »
So this is the first time I have drawn the quality elk for the nooksack herd. I will be doing archery, any help and or pointers would be greatly appreciated. I live in whatcom county so I’m not far at all. Thank you for your help and advice.

Get a good caller and be patient. A couple buddies to pack out wouldn't hurt either.

Spent 20 days up in this unit.  Saw elk every time.  A few will be nice bulls.
Cut em!

I live fairly close also and have been trying to get this permit. I actually cant give any tips. But if you need a hand or even someone to scout with let me know. I work graveyard shift and can come any time during the week also. Been wanting to get in there to check it out. I figured its pretty hard to scout without the keys to the gate

No I’m not sure when. I’ve been told we will get either an email or something in the mail about a meeting in a Saturday in Mt. Vernon and there we will get everything.

 :yeah:

If no changes, You will get a notice of a meeting they will go over the SPI rules and expectations and you should get a gate key. Don't remember exactly how many days but its somewhere around 10ish prior to the start of your permit date you are allowed in to scout etc. Everything is cleared up at that meeting. Pretty cut and dried.

And then take that key, throw it in the trash and hunt one of the herds on the periphery that never get hunted. Some monster bulls dying of old age in there. And also,

There are monsters behind the sierra pacific gates but I know Archery guys have been frustrated in the past finding them. My advice is to get off the logging roads where you can and hike a bit. Which means you need to be comfortable packing out and you might need to find some two legged mules.

Ok cool, yeah I figured getting off the beaten path was the best for me. I got some help to call if I do drop something but it’ll be just me hunting.
