Securing wall tent stove pipe sections

I’ve never added anything to secure the sections of pipe for my stove. Never had any issues but it seems like it’d be a good idea. I’ve read about some people securing their sections with wire but haven’t been able to find a photo of how to do it and I’m having a tough time picturing it.

Anybody have any photos or more specific instructions? Or any other advice on securing stove pipe sections?

Does the pipe go out of tent horizontally, or vertically?

Maybe be a little more specific .. if you mean secure the pieces together as my pipe runs out the side wall and up so i use to 90s. I just use a few small self tapping screws to hold it together at each joint

We have both types in camp, vertical one has never been tied down. Horizontal one we wire two T-post together making an X under the pipe to cradle it, then wire pipe to the cradle.

In a thread on here called Wall Tents Tip & Tricks, I think there is a lot of good info.

Most the guys I talked to ,who have had a stove pipe come loose,have said it comes loose in the wind going straight out the top of the tent.

All of those folks said the separation happen at the stove not at a pipe to pipe section.

Because of this I wrap tie wire around the first pipe out of the stove above the damper? Tied of to the handle rail on my stove or the back legs.

I've always assembled the pipe at home and pre-drilled a few screw holes into each point where 2 pieces connect.  Take it apart, then when assembled at camp put screws into the pre-drilled holes.  Holds the sections together nicely.

A roll of tin tape from the hardware store.

I've uses pre-drilled holes and hex head sheet metal screws. 2 at each joint seem to work great.

All good ideas, I've just never had to worry about this in the past.  The pipe fits together pretty tight wout anything, but my pipe goes straight up.  I had a buddy make me two sections of stainless pipe, it's tough as nails.

I go out the sidewall horizontally and use the t-post cradle.  It seems pretty stable in the wind but I'm worried if someone bumps into the stove or something it will all come apart.

The sheet metal screws where the sections overlap seems like a pretty simple solution.  Anyone have issues with smoke coming out the holes or anything like that?  And do you just use the smallest size screw?

@ghosthunter I hadn't put any thought into the pipe separating at the stove itself, so I appreciate you flagging that issue.  Wire around the damper would be easy insurance, so I'm going to start doing that.

We have some more kids in camp this year so I am definitely getting a little more safety conscious.
