My best missed shot in a while

I had the 375 BME out Sunday to check the velocity on a new load using 110gr of H4831sc under a 300gr Sierra Game King after shooting 108.0gr the week before with good results. I set the gong up at 400 yards and figured that'd be a good starting point. As usual, I never zeroed my turrets and I didn't dial back down after shooting at 650 yards the week before. I fired the first shot and heard an impact, but it wasn't the gong. I saw the shot go high, then realized that I was still dialed for 650 yards and came down 2 MILs. When I got to my target stand to check it out, this is what I found.




I've shot my chains more than a few times, but I've never managed to thread a bullet through one of the links before! Apparently mild steel can't stop a 300gr, .375 bullet with an impact velocity of around 2350 fps.

And before anyone says anything, I moved the stand to get that picture, I wasn't shooting down a road.

 Just kidding. 450 & 650 yards is good shooting. I know people who couldn't hit a Cadillac at a 100 yards.

James Garner shoots through a washer flipped up in the air. No one believes it, they put a piece of tape over the whole in the washer, and flips the washer again and shoots through the washer a second time thru the tape.

So....I am waiting patiently for your second shot thru the tape

It's mine, all Mine!!!!!!!!!!! During the powder shortage a few years back I accumulated A LOT of powder and I'm still working through it. At one point I think I had more Hodgdon powders in stock than any online distributor.

I have a nice clean hole right in the middle of my ar500 gong from a 120gr Ballistic tip out of a 7 WSM. Velocity always wins. This stand has taken a lot of abuse over the years including a lot of solid hits from 300gr OTMs at 1000+ yards. I tried to get Cloudbreak Designs to send me a new cross beam but he said something about not being responsible for my poor shooting.....

I have to be honest, I really want to set it up  and try to repeat this now. I've learned to just pack it up and walk away sometimes though. A couple years ago I was out with a guy and had my 338/408 rifle with me and we spotted a rock that measured .1 MIL at exactly 2600 yards. I bet him $100 that I could hit it first shot. I set up the spotter for him and I spun the turret 27.2 MILs with no wind hold since I figured the Coriolis would be offset by the wind. With Ean recording through the spotter I fired 1 shot and nailed the rock, on video. I packed the rifle up and called it a day after 1 shot knowing that there was no way I'd ever pull that off again. I still have that video around somewhere.
