Ouch that hurts! A couple years back My brother drew quality deer and buck and each had 17 points. Bummer deal but that quality bull tag will be an amazing hunt!
It’s kinda a crap shoot when applying especially with how department cut the elk tags way down

I thought that’s a bitter sweet way to burn a bunch of points in each category.

On the upside, in theory it improves everyone else's odds by taking those points out of the pool. If it happens a lot over the next 50 years or so I'll be "in like Flynn" :chuckle:

When WDFW claimed that odds would increase with separate categories it was because they figured people wouldn't put in for multiple categories and risk losing points in multiple but still only get one animal.   What they didn't realize was that with odds as crappy as they are to draw any tag, let alone multiple in one year, most people roll the dice. This is that unfortunate case where a guy draws out on both, but it's a rarity. Hard to only put in for 1 sub 1% draw odds hunt each year instead of both because of an extremely low chance of pulling both at once.

The good news is he has two great options to take a dandy bull.

Sucks that one of the permits will go un-used.  With how few they allotted it just makes the issue worse.
They really need a second draw for permits that won't be used.
OR
Let the guy who drew 2 permits harvest 2 animals.

definitely dont agree with taking two animals but I do agree tags need to be reissued. Have a return deadline and then reissue to an alternate.   :twocents:

Should be like Utah.. Draw one tag your pulled out of any other draw option in my opinion. My brother did draw a bull permit with max points and there was only one tag to be had so sometimes it works the way it should..

If he had tags I'd agree, but permits I don't.  He knew ahead of time what risk he was putting the tag in for.
