Calling bears next month
« on: July 06, 2019, 12:42:08 AM »
Anybody else plan on calling some bears next month instead of just glassing them up in the berries?  I want to fill at least one tag via calling next month.
What are you going to use?  I think ill be going with these tools here.  Counting down the days til august 1st.  Havent had any free time to hunt bears since spring season 2016 due to work, and im taking august off.  Getting excited already.  very glad we got our regs fixed!

Called this one in to 10 yards last time i actually got to hunt bear, spring 2016.  Was trying to call in a bigger black one id spotted from about 800 yards off and made a move on, and this sucker snuck up behind me.

That’s an awesome looking call. I have gotten mine the last few years in the same area and my brother has finally decided to take vacation time this year to come to the east side for the opener. I’m really hoping to get him on one since he hasn’t killed a bear yet. I was definitely going to get the fawn in distress call out and start practicing that way if we aren’t spotting them hopefully I can make something happen.  I always tend to see way more movement early afternoon into the evening. Has anyone ever had much luck calling them in early in the morning?

Brian meyer made it for me.  Turkeyrivercalls.com

The same year i called in that last bear, i called in a lion with one of your calls, friend was watching over me from a ridge 100 yards off and shot it as it was sneaking up on me.

Now we need to get cougar season to open august 1st along with bear, so a guy can take advantage of the situation if he calls in a cat while bear calling!

I’m planning to try calling In Bears this August for the first time. I know exactly where Bears live just need to figure out the calling thing I guess. More talk on the subject would be appreciated.

Agree.  The cat in my avatar was called in while targeting bear.  Thankfully it was September.  Family vacation until 8/10 then I'll be calling in earnest.  Scouted last week and saw a density of sign like never before.  Hopefully they don't move too far.

Saw a dandy while out looking for huckleberry patches. 800 yards away in the open rooting around or something. Called with a baby cottontail and he slowly started working his way towards us. Then I tried a jack rabbit on the electronic call. He stood up and was looking right at us but turned tail and went over a hill. Did not like the louder call. Ive got a rain shadow raspy and bearmanric bear call that I’ll be using unless I come across more bears interested in the high pitched one. Electronic calls aren’t legal for bear hunting are they?
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

Rick, your web site doesn’t seem to be working?

Yes, you can use ecallers for bear.  just not deer or turkey.  And maybe not waterfowl, not sure on that, i dont hunt waterfowl.
