Late archery was nov 20 opener for a long time . Then they took it away for 5 measly rifle permits. Those 5 days were the archery season it was the bread and butter . One of the reasons I quit bowhunting Whitetails . Archery guys get maybe 2 days of dwindling rut activity now.
They still have a Nov 20th opener in some of the SE units. I'm heading over to 178 this weekend to check cams. I hope to be sitting in my stand on the opener.

I’m planning on heading down to 178 for the 20th opener too. Are the whiteys in the river/creek bottoms, mulies up higher? Kinda hoping to get on a mule deer. Any help would be great never hunted that unit.

Heading over Thur. My season ends 11/19 so want to hunt the last 4-5 days. Hope the older bucks will be out & about looking for love.  :hunter:

I have a modern permit for the Pougue Unit 233.  Hopefully I’ve timed my hunt well with the rut.  I’ll be hunting it 11/16 to 11/20 with rain showers in the forecast.

178 is primarily private. There are a couple areas that are feel free to hunt or state. I have seen a mix of both mulies and whities that share the same terrain. The whities are spookier for sure. Make sure you have a cougar tag in your pocket.

I have a cougar tag and would love to notch it.  I’ve secured some private land to hunt and use OnX for guidance. Thanks for the feedback and good luck to you next week!

Saw there was a antlerless elk season , but looks like a gotta know someone unit .

Yup, fortunately I know someone. Not a lot of elk on my cams but they wander through periodically. Hopefully one will wander past my stand while I'm waiting for a decent buck. What is a good attractant for both deer and elk??? been using apples but open to suggestions.

Decent bucks showed this week, first in over a month, all glued to does.
Have had garbs, grain and apples side by side, garbs go first apples last.

deer hammered our wet cob and alfalfa cubes
I put out a bag of cubes in mid October but haven't checked the cams for action. Going down tomorrow with some cob and a bale.

Garbanzo bean, or chickpea. Essential ingredient in hummus. Garbs make whitetails fat and happy.
