SPRING BEAR-DRAW TIMES-HOW MANY POINTS TO DRAW
« on: February 10, 2020, 09:15:23 AM »
I know there are many spring bear topics currently .
But I can't remember the draw date last year.
How many points ,I'm gonna need to draw most popular permits.

I did find this for 2019

7 points
I guess I shouldn't get to excited about going in with 4 points.
Is there avg.number of points to draw some kind of joke?

Don't really want to show and tell but it's 121.

I'd say 4 points gives you at least decent odds. I didn't draw Skagit last year with 6 points. The whole odds game, imo, is really nonsense but you gotta put in to get drawn!

Avg points to draw in 2019 in 121 was 3.19. Tags were 100 available with 941 applicants. So you are above the average to draw.

It's a random draw, I wouldn't look at it as anything else.  WDFW gives averages which is unfortunate as it leads a bunch of people to think that the odds are WAY better than they are.

You can subscribe to GoHunt to see very near the actual odds at any point level from last year or do some crude math for free and get fairly close.

For example, I picked a unit with an average of about 3 points to draw.  The actual odds of drawing with 3 points was 18%.  The odds weren't over 50% until you got to 6 points.

The average points that wdfw publishes is nothing more than the average points of the winner. It doesn’t tell you what it takes to draw because “what it takes to draw” isn’t even a thing with our draw system.

I can't remember these days.

Unless you are trying to get people to miss the deadline on purpose to better your odds, then the deadline is the end of March.    :chuckle:
