First Deer
«

Well, last weekend was pretty exciting for me. I finally harvested my first big game. 45 years old, but only my 3rd year hunting, and really the 1st year actually putting in real effort.
I watched a lot of videos, read books, listened to podcasts, read lots on forums and listened to my friends that have years and years of hunting experience.
I took a buddy with me and we put in a classic textbook spot and stalk on this group of whitetail does, it was so much fun!
I did miss my first shot on one of them at a little over 90 yards, but was gifted a second chance. After reloading, a doe walked right up the hill at us and I was able to put her down at 25-30 yards.
I just wanna say thanks for all the advice and great information y'all put out there for us newbies to soak up.

The trophy is in the hunt; the animal is a bonus!

Honestly, It doesn’t matter how many deer you kill, you’ll never forget your first. I’ve been blessed to take a lot of deer in my life, including several trophy bucks and I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited than I was to take my first. I shot a whitetail spike in 1991 near colville and can still remember it like it was yesterday. Two of my boys got first deer this year as well! Congrats, I hope the love of hunting never leaves you. I sure have enjoyed the ride and still can’t sleep some nights the day before some of my favorite seasons open.
