Don't Feed the Crazy
« on: March 10, 2021, 10:34:31 AM »
Desperate hoarding has been driving prices into the stratosphere of ridiculousness.

Like all bubbles before it, this component demand bubble is eventually going to POP and many people are going to get burned buying otherwise common components at utterly stupid prices...and those components will sit on their shelves or their parents' basements gathering dust with all the rest of the unused components they bought during the last round of TEOTWAWKI insanity...and they'll pay 17%+ interest on the credit card balance(s) for years.  Buying things you don't need, at ridiculous premiums, on credit...is DUMB!

Listen, manufacturers are CRANKING out more supply than people can possibly realize and it is working its way through distributors.

Case in point, a friend of mine just got a quarter million LRP's delivered and will get another shipment of SRP's in the next month or so.  And no...Please don't ask.  They have all been spoken for, are being run through reloading machines as we speak, and will be shot up by people that actually train/compete/hunt.

Bottom line:  Don't try feeding the crazy beast in an attempt to appease it, it doesn't care and is ultimately just going to bite you.

Some folks saw this coming and purchased the dip 4 years ago.  You can probably afford to sit on brass cases 223 @ 29c a round... not so sure about 75c+

Previous panics have lasted about a year, which is where we are now.  Powder is showing up.  Primers little by little.   Loaded ammo will probably stay elevated for a while but feel like we've passed peak insanity.

AMEN!

Case in point: Last week I called my local sporting goods store and asked if any components had come in?
I was told that there were 3 bricks of small pistol magnum primers. I went and bought one brick at a normal price of $26 and change including the tax.
I was almost completely out of that size primer.
Stay patient and it will happen.

I need a bunch of shotgun primers, but I have enough loaded rounds to get me to normal prices and will likely  stock up when they come up on sale.

It's definitely on the downslope.

My guess is that the ammo manufacturers are cranking out 9mm and 223 since that is where the profit is. That is why everything else is in low supply.

The people buying up random stuff for the sake of it are going to get burned.

Once the shelves restock they will panic and start fire selling it.

I'm gonna wait until a case of 12 gauge BB is $50. Will be this year.

Wait until the next stimmy checks arrive, I bet there is another buying spree.  Maybe even starting earlier on the credit card this week?

I’ve been seeing a decent amount of 223/5.56 on the shelves lately. Definitely seems like production is catching up a little

I expect 9mm handguns to glut as well.

Same for pump action 12 gauge shotguns.

Expect a lot of manufacturer rebates in the summer and maybe even earlier.

Gonna be some good deals to be had.

Yes,  much gluttonous panic buying has been going on. But also understand much manufacturing has been slowed down by social distance protocols at the same time. These 2 combined at their peaks caused this shortage. Both are slowly changing for the better thankfully👍

Hopefully lots of new members of the forum read this thread.

Pretty sure the OP is referring to reloading "components" but applies across all spectrums of our interests in today's world.

I hope more people step up and contribute where it counts. We ARE being targeted and need to support organizations that protect our Right. If you do have a surplus, consider selling some at a reasonable level where you can support those Org's w/ a portion. If you're paying ridiculous premiums for WataKiI, consider buying less and supporting w/ the difference. Must say, thought I was going to see a lot of such and such for sale (in line w/ trending prices) w/ all profit going towards 2A Orgs. Didn't see ANY of that. Not even here.

Please, before you go out and buy your next component or whatever, think about the organizations that are actively trying to ensure you'll always have the ability to do so. Sorry for the rant.

So sell some ammo and buy LaPierre some suits if you want.

Don't come in here and tell us how to spend our money.
