I sell Acdelco and Delvac 15w40. Both have served my customers well.

Change your oil regularly

Drain your water separator regularly

Use a Cetane booster like Motorcraft PM-22A ( In Washington Cetane is not regulated like octane is) it will work for all diesels not just Fords

As a diesel mechanic, I use almost exclusively Delo with the exception being if the parts supplier offers manufacture branded oil for when the engine is still newish/under warranty

With the exception of caterpillar which retella is recommended I almost exclusively use Delo 15w40 unless specified then it’s either Delo 100 40wt or Delo 400 40wt or 30wt

Although ConocoPhillips offers an oil called PowerD which is not emission compliant however and is meant for agricultural implements and non highway industrial engines and this oil has the “good stuff” left in it like zinc and phosphorus and stuff.

The biggest thing about oil is that the cheaper stuff is periffin based and under high temp and loads it can separate break down and cook off so while Delo is the industry standard be aware of cheaper oils and read the jug and look for an API (American petroleum institute) endorsement or a certification rating like API CJ4 or similar I forget what the current rating is but hope that helps

Amsoil here.. been to some schools on oil, mostly all synthetic is good now days.. the additive package in the oils are were its at.. breakdown is the devil from contamination... you may be surprised how long some oils will last if you don't have crossover contamination... auto manufacturers go to the fail safe mileage/ replacement periodicities... have gone to annually here with changes and oil is still acceptable pretty much. Ams used to have a send in test program to evaluate your oil life, don't know if they still do but.....

US army did a study on motor oil and found that modern heavy duty oils with an API rating do not separate or break down under normal operating conditions and went a million miles on a single oil change by using bypass filter technology and took oil samples at each regular service interval and found issues like a failing head gasket and wear on accessory components but that the oil itself if kept clean will not break down at normal operating conditions

I really liked Wolf's Head and Kendall oils when they were refined in Pennsylvania with PA sweet crude. They were good oils. I've been using Napa semi synthetic blend recently. I agree probably more inportant to change oil on time vs brand.

My 2020 Ram 3500 specifies either MOPAR oil or Shell Rotella in the owners manual.  First oil change I used Rotella T6.

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

I would use what the manufacture recommends, i am in a slightly different world in AG but some of the tier 4 AG stuff is not 15w40 anymore, but the old guys come in wanting it and we have to steer then straight..
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Shell Rotella T6!

T6 is not an apples to apples comparison since it’s a synthetic line. Nonetheless Shell Rotella T4 is another good choice as are most of the majors top shelf 15/40’s.

Is the T6 better than the Delo 400?  I switched to T6 when costco stopped selling DELO, and it costs me about $21 more per oil change,  not significant it it is a better oil.

I switched to the Rotella T-5 a few years back in the grey jug.  Its been great and ive had 2 oil analysis done by a lab and they said whatever im doing keep doing it. This at 7500 mile change too.
