Synthetic stocks?
« on: May 03, 2009, 07:39:26 PM »

I recently purchased a pre-FN Winchester model 70 stainless classic with a featherweight style synthetic stock in perfect condition.
I haven't put a scope on it yet and thus have not shot it.
It looks really cool  :chuckle:  ...Every time I pick it up I have my doubts though. I don't know what it is...It seems so toy like.
I doesn't have the feel of my wood stocked rifles...obviously. Is it something you get used to?
My question is this: You guys/gals that have the synthetic stocks...do you like them? Why?

I'm hard on my rifles. They see alot of weather and brush. I don't think I'll ever go back to wood. Sure like the look of a nice wood stock, but synthetic really fits the bill for me.

I have both a synthetic and wood stock for my rifle.  I perfer my synthetic for the reason that I do not have to worry about scratching it while hunting.  If I was using my wood I would worry about messing it up with some of the situations I get in sometimes.   :)

the only rifle out of 5 in my safe that has a wood stock is a 10/22 and the only reason that has a wood stock is because i haven't settled on a .920 barrel for it yet. i have the b/c stock in the safe for it. i like synthetic stocks but some definitely feel rinky dink compared to others. a savage plastic tupperware stock feels about as good as the cost of them reflects($30 on ebay) but i hear there's some quick and easy upgrades you can make to them.
