What’s the alternative funding choice?

What was funding before the pass? Or should we ask were the funding before the pass was reappointed to? I mean, there was funding before the pass? Things just don’t pay for themselves? Where did it go? Pensions, employees benefits, more employees, salaries, social programs, cleaning up Seattle, etc…..why?

Read the bill. Replacement money would come from the General Fund. I believe it was that way before.

Discover passes are no good for anything. I live by quite a few required areas. Gotta have one to get into access to launch your boat, then pay $12.00 to launch. Then another fee to camp if you decide to. Many of our boat launch areas close  after labor day.  The Riverside State park office is within 2 miles of 2 of these areas. The lazy State employees wont keep them open. Another area down the road 5 miles is the Painted Rocks hiking area. It's open but you need a pass PLUS $10.00 fee to park there. Totally ridicules !

The whole concept of the Discover Pass is outrageous and unconsitutional IMO.

Charging taxpaying citizens a fee to set foot on wide open PUBLIC publically owned land- what a brilliant idea to raise revenue.  How about a parking fee for parking in your own driveway?

Repeal it, yes!

Exactly! The money was diverted to fund something else and another tax was created, the discover tax, oops I mean discover pass. Another pay more get less tax…….

Discover passes are rob peter to pay paul. That was the way they were designed. For a long time parks were funded by generalnfunds. They institueded a user/parking fee and parks use plummeted.  The DP was instituted  because they knew sportsmennwould pay and most parks users would not. Fishermen made out since DP substituted originally for launch fees.

Bottom line is the DP was a funding source for parks since day one. This state is based on a user payes system   and the legislature tried to shuffle this off to a different user group. The 8%8%  84% parks payment tells you everthing you need to know about this corrupt program.

If the state wants to support acess to public lands to the poor and those whom dont have acess otherwise then it needs to be general fund not coming from sportsmen. This is coming from some one whos direct family  utilied parks a lot because they were poor and wanted the kids to have outings and experience the greatness of washington.  The DP is an abomination and i have not purchased one out of principle...

Seems like each legislative session tries this lately and it goes nowhere.  No matter what, politicians hate to return money to the people.  Once a payment, no matter how dumb or counterproductive, is on the books, it stays there...and grows...

The state parks we camp at don't require a DP if you're paying for the camp site.  Are some not that way?

My opinion about the general fund is that is has enough money to fund what the Discover Pass has been doing.  Every time a Washington FFL transfers a semiautomatic rifle to an unlicensed resident, the state gets $18.000 that is supposed to be deposited into the general fund.

When has a bunch of liberals eliminated a tax once in place? Honest question.

The first year a ticket was pretty common... access site check's where frequent... these days not so much...I don't know anyone that buys them anymore...no one I know has been ticketed....I'm more concerned about my truck getting stolen at a DNR site than getting a ticket.

And besides..there are ways around having to buy one..

They still write tickets at the state parks.  Or they will leave you a note to buy one before you leave the park or get cited.  Depends on which park.

All of the agencies still cite for it. Some areas are more "gun ho" about it then others. State Parks has enabled their non-law enforcement staff to write DP tickets as well.

Been checked in Capital forest by a rather grumpy guy (not sure what agency) and I got one ticket when parked at the Mt Si parking lot where I forgot to display it.  I contested it and they dropped the fine.

I never buy any of that crap. What part of "Public land" does the State not understand? They view it as their land.

But I guess that we live in a State where the vast majority (both left and right) blindly follow what they are told to do (masks, permissions, etc).

Things won't change until you guys grow a set.

I never buy any of that crap. What part of "Public land" does the State not understand? They view it as their land.

But I guess that we live in a State where the vast majority (both left and right) blindly follow what they are told to do (masks, permissions, etc).

Things won't change until you guys grow a set.

Yea your right
$35 pass

I’ve never bought one. Never received a ticket. Never used the state parks, except to park my camper @ potholes while duck hunting that area.

Just bought one today ......
We do a lot on statelands, fishing, hunting, whatever.
This is the second one I've ever bought.
I guess better to be legal these days.
I'm not happy about it.
PAY TO PLAY pisses me off.

Pay to play is a good thing. The DP is a abomination to that payment philosophy.  DP has always been a money transfer between sportsmen and state park users. Rob Peter to pay Paul!
