Well crap. No luck for my party of three. Now we get to play the alternate list game which is just a crapshoot. Really wish they would put you in as a party on that too. One or two guys ends up drawing a good number and somebody get screwed out of going or somebody has to go by themselves. Man I’m depressed now :bash: :bash:

We drew our landowner deer licenses and we also drew our limited entry mule deer buck permits.  Most of Montana has a 5 week general season.  The area we hunt in unit 4 only has a 3 week general season (closes two week early).  With the special permits we will be able to hunt 2 weeks longer like the rest of the state during the peak of the rut.  The landowner licenses only allow that we can hunt on the deeded land of the ranch.  But 12,000 acres should be enough for the 5 of us.  It has been for the last 13 years.  Wasn't until 2 years ago that we started doing the landowner option due to the mass increase of applicants.  Should be a great hunt!  Good Luck to all! Now the wait continues for Wyoming limited entry elk!
I hate to be the bearer of bad news D but like ID, you are restricted to ONLY hunting your permit now.

Was just going to point that out as well.

I'll be surprised to see anyone with 1pt draw this year. Deer it should have been physically impossible.

I drew deer with 1 point as a group with one guy. At least that's what the backdoor results show, i'll confirm once its actually posted on their website. I figured I had little to no chance of drawing.
and your partner had 1pt?

Yep, we both had 1 point. I was too cheap to pay another $100 for this year's point so was letting it ride with just the one I bought last summer.

Have they drawn any elk permits

We put in for both a limited entry elk and deer but it only shows “deer not successful”

Got the combo for party of 4. That’s 2 for the last 3 years and didn’t apply last year. Zero points. I can hear the bugles already.

Restricted to only hunting the Special permit with a 5 week season, or the landowner permit with the 3 week season? Both in the same unit I take it.
With the special permit, couldn't he hunt the entire 5 week season on any land he has access too within the special permit unit?

He can hunt the permit area during the dates for the permit. If there is overlap between the general season area and season dates then I guess technically he could hunt "both" but he would still be hunting within his permit parameters. The way he made it sound is they could hunt the opener and then bleed into the permit season :dunno:
