Most the land was purchased from Weyerhaeuser and bought by Hampton and they now lease and sell permits.

I've spent a ton of time on that property within the Sauk unit and have never seen an elk or elk sign. Would not recommend anyone with a Sauk bull tag buying access for that property in hopes of shooting an elk

It's funny you say that because the elk from the Sauk are already in the 448. Just gotta do your scouting.this tG can be filled

I think Teepee96 is talking about the south side of the Sauk unit. I agree it wouldn’t worth buying the Hampton permit for this permit.
$5 is a lot of money if you ain't got it

If I wanted to kill a huge bull on the west side I'm not sure if I'd rather have a Nooksack or a Sauk tag.      No, after thinking about it. The Sauk tag.

All I'm saying is if I had the tag I wouldn't be hunting on the Hampton permit.

Interesting I have always thought the nooksack tag was the one everyone wants. Maybe that's because I grew up in the woods of 418.  Now I will have to do some research on the Sauk tag.

I would disagree with 3nails. Not to say big bulls can't be found in either, I don't think the units are comparable in terms of opportunity.  That said, both units are a little depressed right now but will improve.  But what do I know  :dunno:.

I've been checking stuff out on onX.  I could be mistaken, but I see some of the land being Sierra Pacific, along with other private timberland companies.  Unless they have changed things, Sierra Pacific in the past allowed hunting without any permits, but didn't open any of there gates (at least that's how they treated in the Ryderwood).  I also see what appears to be a fair amount of state land.

Smitty.  I am seeing the same thing and also experienced the same on other Sierra land. Their website suggests they still allow access on their lands - though eyes on roads is best to confirm they are not specifically posted. I am headed up next Saturday or Sunday to check stuff out a bit.
