Bearpaw Season - Fall 2023

We had a flurry of successful hunts the last couple days and I almost forgot to post this Montana whitetail taken just a couple days ago on one of the ranches. We have a couple residents who hunt with us every year and they always do very well.

We've got places that we know we'll find moose, but scouting several days right before Matt arrived no moose were seen, fresh tracks yes, but no moose in those tracks, so again I was getting worried about the hunt. In today's wolf infested world there are only about 15% to 25% of the moose there used to be, and this unit has it's fair share of moose eating wolves. But again as luck would have it, they saw 3 bulls the first morning of the actual hunt, this was the best one and it would have been very risky passing this bull, he's a solid representative bull. I used to tell my moose hunters we'll average seeing 5 bulls a day and we'll look for the right bull, but now I tell guys they should carefully consider passing bulls if they are very limited in how many days they can hunt. Luck has certainly been with us this year for sure!

The next day three more cats were seen, I'm sure that was a female with yearlings (they said no spots but one was a little bigger).

We've seen some good tom tracks through the deer/elk season, so hoping we find a few toms in hound hunting season.

Carl from California notched his Idaho deer tag yesterday with guide Zach who is now waiting for the next hunters to arrive! God job gentlemen!

On our cow elk hunt another cow was missed yesterday but they happened onto a dandy last winter shed. Guide Russell will be looking for the other side!

What will you be doing when you are 80 years old? William from Pennsylvania went mule deer hunting in Montana, he and guide Derek had a pretty good day yesterday!

Yesterday William (80 years young) notched his tag and today his son Bill also from Pennsylvania scored on another nice Montana buck with Derek, congrats to both of them.

Steve a resident from western Montana notched his tag with guide Derek this morning. They got on the buck once and missed it, the buck took off and Derek made his way around to where they got on the buck again and Steve dropped him that time. When they walked up to the downed deer there was a shed from last winter only 15ish feet away, looks like this buck’s shed.
