I bought a handloader a long while back for my 30-06.It fits in your pocket,and your supposed to be able to reload anywhere..I havent used it just wondering if anyone has tried it

Rasbo, most of the guys that use that type of loader are competition shooters.  They build each shell as they shoot, and can custom tailor it to what they need at the time.  Of course it is slower than molasses in January, but if you have lots of time and do not plan on loading a couple hundred rounds, they work good.

One of the guys I know that does lots of match shooting uses one for match .22 caliber stuff.  Two reason he uses it.  Big presses can easily damage brass, because you don't have much feel.  He uses the small press to have a little more feel when seating bullets.  He also load a ton of rounds while he is waiting for everyone else to finish shooting before he can go check targets.  He has a very fast system and can load about 30 rounds in 15 minutes or so, while everyone else is still shooting.

I've been thinking about getting one of those Lee hand presses. I think it would be pretty slick for load development. Prep. all the brass, seat primers at home, even load some starting loads at home. At the range after shooting the loads made at home, you could just load a few rounds, shoot them, then load a few more and shoot, ect.  You'd only have to bring a scale to weigh powder, the powder, bullets, and the Lee press to seat bullets.  The way I've been doing load work up, I load in 1/2 gr. powder increments to a few gr. over book max. I usually stop before I get through all the upper loads so I have to pull some bullets at home, or sometimes I didn't load hot enough so I have go home load some more and make another range trip.

Its the lee,no scale.the dipper is 3.4cc never reloaded anything but think it would be cool to use this..using the dipper seems like it would be close to the same any way this would be a first for me

The dipper will work, its all in why your loading your own. Just looking to make ammo for hunting that's cheaper then buying factory loads, then use the dipper. If your loading, trying to get every bit of accuracy you can out of your load/rifle then dump the dipper and weigh your charges on a scale. Some of the finner powders meter well enough through a powder thrower that after you work up a load, you can set the thrower and you dont have to weigh every charge.

thanks,I will pick up some primers and bullits and try it.seems weird Ill be using a hammer to load shells.as far as seating them,any tricks as far as how far to seat or just go by a factory load

nope.but my buddy has one...Ill look at that and figure this out out..seems like a cool way to load..thanks for the help..
