Riffe lake good year for 2024
« on: June 29, 2024, 09:49:59 AM »
Riffe has always been a favorite for us, easy fishery with the kids and always action.  Fish this year have been the best in years and not nearly the shakers as the last couple years.  Lost another one of the big kings again and always exciting.  If you're looking for a good family trip I highly recommend Mossyrock.  Decent bit through about 10am and picks up again early afternoon so you don't have to drag everyone out of be crack of dawn as well.

Cure some salad shrimp, microwave for about a min first to firm it up good and a small chunk on top hook instead of corn.

It can be really good fishing from the bank by the dam. Just find the right depth. They travel in schools so when you get one you usually get into them pretty good.

You can launch at Mossyrock park and troll I usually just use a light in line banana weight 1 1/2 to 2 oz. Then a small dodger. to whatever bait. Can be an absolute blast. Especially for kids. Watch the wind. It can get rough quick. Sometimes it doesnt matter where you fish. Other times down by the dam near the barrier. Or straight across from the park against the far shore.

These are the dodgers I used. About anything will get their attention though. Then about 3 feet back to a wedding ring or smile blade, being wing in about any color. I just used small chunk of nightcrawler but tip with shrimp or run salad shrimp works great also.

Are the fish still full of those white worms?  I haven't fished there in years because of that.   :puke:

Yes, and there are some big steelhead in their as well.  Fun catching them on noodle rods with light weight line.  I've land 3 and lost 3 or 4 over the years.

Would be an amazing fishery if it wasn't for that. I personally don't eat anything from there after opening multiple fish and seeing 100s of worms in their gut.

Same with the Cowlitz salmon. Fillet those open and they are full of white puss sacks that look like a white salmon egg buried in the meat. I have no desire to eat something like that. Many people keep telling me oh just cook thoroughly its fine. Big NOPE for me! :puke:
