Walked a cougar down

Clearly there are a ton of cats in this state. I’m in GMU 328. Still open for cats. Shot one three months ago and now there are two more 100 yards from where the other one was. They were here for two hours last night, 1:30am to 3:30. Ten deer maybe 150 yards away from them. They finally walked off to the north. Headed out at first light but no luck. They had been on the move for over two hours, no snow so it was like looking for two needles in a haystack.

My pulsar rangefinder binocs and rifle scope worked awesome, both cats showed up well and were obviously cats, the shape of the head was obvious and of course the long tail. It’s insane how good the technology is.

Dang I think we need to get a call list of those of us that are local to you when this kind of thing happens and we can get a group of people to go after them if they are moving off of your property and up onto forest service. on my electronic game caller there is baying hounds. Has anyone ever thought of using that while following them to see if you could tree them? Or maybe two or three of us could be carrying them and they would think we were a whole pack of hounds and have an even better chance of treeing them.

Now if we can just convince the WDFW of your first sentence. Some have been voicing this concern for a long time now, including myself. Good luck on the persuit.👍

Wow.  Is there any more ungulates left near your cabin?  We all need to do our part and shoot more predators.  Congrats on the December cat!

Funny you ask. The rib cage on the right is an elk, the rib cages to the left are two deer. I brought my cow elk head that had been in the freezer from December and that is what they were chewing on.

150 yards below them were 10 deer, a couple laying down and 8 up feeding. Didn’t seem concerned about the cats and the cats walks away in the opposite direction.

Today from my cabin I can see 50 elk and close to 200 deer

@bigmacc we need a different commission or at least density results to come back showing what we are all seeing in the field.

Then we could push for longer seasons and higher quotas.

If cougars were not classified as big game animals you could hunt them at night and use thermals both of which would be great tools for controlling the population

FYI I have a ton of game cameras and in a five square mile area these two cats bring my total to five cats still alive in a five square mile area. Because of date and time stamps I know they are all different cats. These two just moved in since my buddy shot the one in December.

It’s freaking nuts.

Sounds like the wolves are back in your hood (a recent report)   any of those show up on your cam?

I don’t understand why some complain about cougar seasons or quotas, in areas where quotas are not met.

I think it's the principle of it... There is no reason there should be a quota at all.  Not that quotas are getting met and hunters are regularly getting cut off.

Yes two on camera one with a collar and one without. There is rumor there are three two with collars one without. All are from Canada is the rumor. Males kicked out of their pack looking for a mate. They only come in one at a time not as a group. Hopefully they move on.
