My goal this winter is to get my garage organized and turned into a home gym/hunting and fishing cave. I’ve started on it but haven’t gotten too far yet.
Also I’d like to spend some more time figuring out some winter fishing that doesn’t include steelhead. I used to tie some flies but quit it because it didn’t have enough time for the hobbies I had, nevermind adding more…so I trimmed down on the list of hobbies I was half participating in in hopes of increasing time for other stuff.
Is there any good white fishing around over there?

I think I’d have to go east, which I’m not opposed to. It’s more a matter of figuring out time and where to go.
It used to be a bigger deal on the yakima river around cle elum, the old timers are dwindling but a few holes are still producing good numbers. They make some of the best smoked fish I've ever eaten.

Thanks for the tips. I’ve always meant to try it out. The problem with it for me is there are trout there to be caught so i’d probably end up focusing on them.

Apparently, according to the scale this morning I eat more  :(

This winter has been pretty gloomy in the basin. More so then usual it seems.

If I was smart I’d tie some flies….
tie some whitefish flies. Those things are about unobtainium these days  :chuckle:

Load, shoot, rinse and repeat.

Been killing some whitefish the last few weekends as well.

I probably have some antique ones in my fly box, it’s been that long.

I’m never not busy. It would be a nice luxury however, shorter amounts of daylight reduce my outdoor activities so it’s prep for outdoor activities time which includes making most of my ammo for the year.

Hot rods, drag cars, and sport quads here.  There's always something to work on.

Gary
One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset

Clean the boat up from 8 months of abuse & make upgrades as needed. Get a head start on steelhead leaders for February/March, do the wife's list of chit I've put off, etc.

Hunting ducks of course! I can barely find time to do any chores because the dog wants me to shoot birds over him. It's a lot of work in itself packing in decoys and what not but it's worth it seeing him work or when you get that one fat bird in 10 that's delicious.

Otherwise think of what you've been putting off, the monster in the closet project and start that.

What exactly do these elusive whitefish flies look like exactly? I'll tie some up but I can't find an accurate pattern to copy.
