Recently had my 2005 Ram 2500 diesel in the shop for running gear service (ball joints, u-joints, track bar), and change a few lamps in the instrument panel.  Put 150 miles on it, all good.  Put it in my shop to install new aftermarket fog light complete with wire harness, switch, fuse, resistor.  Pulled out old aftermarket harness, installed new.   All fed off battery.  Only wires thru dash were for supplied switch.  Lights work.  Fiddled around with winch to get it to work.  I think it had set too long, after hand rolling 5' of cable in controls work.  Great!  Now I have a working winch.  Time to get the truck out of the shop.  It won't start.  Turns over, but the Cummins won't fire.  Notice fuel gauge not responding with key on.  Fuses are good.   

Service shop had dash open, and I had to open it to get switch harness thru.  I'm ready to start taking it back apart to look for anything loose.  Ideas??

Bad batteries could be the issue.  I had an 06 and it would turn over all day long but didn't have enough cranking amps to turn that big diesel over enough to start it.   Do you have a charger that has a jump start 40 amp feature?  If so give that a shot.  Also check all the battery connections.

Sounds like a sensor possibly. Crank sensor?

Does any smoke come out tbe exhaust?

Didn't notice any smoke.  Short duration on glow plug indicator.  The fuel gage not responding with key on is strange.  Spins fast an no fire.

Sounds like a fuel problem, does the lift pump come on. No glow plugs on a Cummins, has heater grid.

I agree with something unplugged, they were messing with behind instrument panel ? And the fuel gauge is not working? Hopefully bingo right there, or if they tied in direct to battery power find out where and what it looks like, loose ground cable or poor contact from an additional ground added ? Good luck

I’m going with blown fuse related to fuel delivery due to things touching that shouldn’t have been touching during some part of the multiple disassemblies and reassemblies.

Couldn't get any to come up turning key on - off  - on 3x.

There’s another test you can do, do a little Google searching but I think you hold the trip reset and turn key to acc, or cycle key three times like for other codes. That runs a test on other circuits I guess. Have a pen and paper ready or someone with pen and paper cause there’s quite a few if I remember right and they come fast. Lots are irrelevant (again if I remember right) but may lead to something

That's where I got the C-code.  Took it to dealer and as of yesterday, they were still scratching their head with diagnosing.  Had mice last hunting season.  Keep thinking about that.
