Hunting the bugle Western WA

When does the Bugle typically start in western WA? Do you archery hunters typically get to hunt the bugle in early to mid September? How is the Elk hunting around Battle Ground?

Ok.  Duck, I'm not an archery hunter but I do hunt Muzzleloader.  In general, the elk are just about done rutting by the time I get to hit the woods usually mid to end of the first week in October.  Usually while scouting for elk they are rutting pretty good a couple weeks before the ML hunt so mid to late September they are really going at it.

Typically the archery hunters get the peak of the rut but occasionally it slips into October. Last season I saw a bull bugle in November.

Bulls can/do/will be bugling hard in early October for sure.  Those who remember our old early season opener dates may remember how nice this was for multi-state hunts.  I could go hunt Oregon and not miss a single day of Washington's season, and the bulls were typically cranked by then!

In the Battleground GMU the best elk hunting is on private land that probably is difficult to get permission to hunt.

Yeah, I guess I was trying to cut some corners, sorry! I had a friend of mine move to Battle Ground from Reno. I have never hunted Elk but have always wanted to. I wanted to go on a deer hunt with him and was hoping to hear some bugling while we were on our deer hunt. I have never heard an elk bugle in the wild!! So I was trying to get some quick info. I will do a little "searching" around on the site here next time.

You can catch bulls east or west bugling from the end of August to the end of November.  In yakima, the peak is late late sept, to the first week of OCtober.  Traditionally the muzzel guys have the best season here.  Not that it matters, just clarifying time frames.

Welcome to the site, David.  I was just joking and giving you a little bit of a hard time.  The other thread kind of fit right in at the time so I posted the link to joke with you.  Hearing bull elk talking is awesome.  Get out there scouting in August and September and you should hear them.  They talk a lot at night too.

Oh.....and to clarify - the archery guys here have the best season for going after rutting elk, so you're best bet is to go archery in Battleground.

I've hunted the BTL GR Unit from one end to the other and it is mostly Privet land. Your best bet is to go up the lewis river and into the national forest . There's lots of open land and loads of elk.
If you want a jump start on elk hunting with a bow take the class from Sportsmans Whole Salewarehouse in Orchards. It's comming up in July. You'll get more info than you'll learn in 10 years of bowhunting ,in 2 days.

oh, I'm not sure the muzzle loaders have the best times, I think the bigest bulls are had early when they are still surching for cows and fighting !
