Huckleberry early bull moose

Been kind of a slow start seeing dinky bulls and cows. Got the opportunity to help a bull and cow tag holder fill their tags and in the process of helping a second bull tag holder fill the tag. The quest for a monarch with my bow continues as the rut activity pics up, been somewhat running by myself so far but the helper eyes begin to show up tomorrow and by the weekend should have a good number of eyes in the woods. Got to see a respectable bull in person tonight and saw pictures and got a location on a bull that will need to get a closer look before the decision is made. I think I may have found a new love in the hunting world these creatures are absolutely amazing, it’s a real shame we only get to hunt one.

Sounds like a once in a lifetime experience. Soak it all in. Patience kills the big one.

Have a target located. Have three evening sights and two maybe three morning sightings. One evening brought us witching shooting range for the rifle but poor shot angle and not being able to make sure he had what I want for a bull that I take with the rifle caused the safety to stay on as light faded into darkness. Probably one of the longest standoffs I’ve had eye to eye with an animal. Neither of us letting a muscle flinch to concede to the other. For now I get to continue to hunt and he gets to continue to be king of the mountain.

Here I sit on my glassing knob waiting for darkness to fade to light, oddly warm this morning. Today is my first day truly solo no spotters no co pilot just man vs beast, no help until the checkmate call is made. The thought of that is definitely daunting but also exciting. If this was truly the last time I will gear up for a Washington bull moose it’s going to be a job starting the break down process alone until packers arrive, but also will an amazing experience to spend time alone with the creature on his turf in gods country. The trip up the hill was slow as I thought back on the last few days and even months. The excitement of seeing drawn to the sheer panic of the email stating the draw mishap. The ups and downs of scouting seeing lots of moose to no moose, finally coming into season without seeing a bull if remotely think about harvesting. Season has gone pretty well no real downs to say, I’m at peace with the choices I’ve and ready for the outcome they bring. Here’s to possibly my last sunrise as a Washington bull moose hunter.
