Who has out of state upland plans?
« on: July 08, 2024, 07:21:04 PM »
I have a VRBO booked for N/E Montana the second week of the pheasant season this year.  Went last year and had a blast.  Just have to pace it a little more this year to keep the dog healthy (and hopefully avoid porcupines too).

What's everyone else's plans?

Metlhead, I have heard the chukar hunting in Nevada is good. Is it that much better than what we have here?

I am debating out-of-state hunts. I am a WA native, gone nearly three decades, now back. Thinking maybe of Montana for sharpies early, or perhaps Dakotas for pheasant. But I wonder if the bird hunting here isn't good enough to just concentrate on WA. Do most serious pointing-dog owners in WA go out of state? Not many wild pheasants left, I know, but what about chukar and quail?

I lived in Winnemucca for several years.  Nevada is awesome for chukar.  Battle Mountain has an annual chukar tournament as well.

Lots of areas for birds, great habitat.  Its a blast

Nowhere in your incoherent rambling did you come close to what can be considered a rational thought. Everyone is now dumber having heard it. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

I’m hoping to hit E Montana for sharpies the first week of September & South Dakota for a week pheasants sometime. Have to do a new furnace this year, though, so not sure I can make them happen.

WA chukar hunting can be just as good as Nevada. Nevada just has a tremendous amount of public land with easier terrain, and you are welcomed there.

I’ve debated focusing on upland instead of big game.  It would be a whole different experience for sure.

My buddies and I didn't draw anything out of state this year so this will be my one trip.  I still will spend plenty of time chasing bears, deer, and elk here in Western WA though.  One of the benefits of being retired!!!

Our Nevada spot with the crowds of people. Far as you can go any direction. All yours. Try that in WA

I did this and am super happy with it. There isn’t much big game hunting in my state & it’s really expensive out of state. And it’s one & done for the year. I moved here to bird hunt and I do that a lot. And it’s affordable to do it in a couple states away from home every year.

I'll be in NE Montana third week of Nov. We're going for mule deer but bringing the dogs to chase pheasant after deer tags get notched. Hope to find some sharptail as I've never hunted them. I'll probably shoot the first deer with antlers just to get to bird hunting sooner :chuckle:
