Elk weapon of choice this year?
« on: September 03, 2024, 09:35:36 PM »
So campers, all the draws have been done this year in ours and the good elk states (grin), what is your primary elk weapon of choice or by default  this year to bring Mr Wapiti (or Mrs Wapiti to be PC correct) home for dinner this year?

No tag but I would use a 9.3X62, good for bears as well.

Archery, western WA.  Drew a good tag and I’ve done some scouting and have a couple trail cams up.  The elk are around, unfortunately I won’t get out until the later half of the season but I have a full week available to be out there.

Eastern WA rifle. Spending vacation time on deer season so will probably only make it out for a weekend, but will take the 6.5 needmoor. About time to cash in on points in some better states...

We have 7 elk tags in Wyoming and I will probably hunt a day or two here in Washington too. Browning MK3 BAR in 300 Win Mag always does the trick.

One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted. If one were to present the sportsman with the death of the animal as a gift he would refuse it. What he is after is having to win it, to conquer the surly brute through his own effort and skill with all the extras that this carries with it: the immersion in the countryside, the healthfulness of the exercise, the distraction from his job. ~ Jose Ortega y Gasset
