Gun "collecton" sale
« on: April 15, 2025, 01:26:12 PM »
So I've got a few guns from my grandfather and father, none of these particular guns have any sentimental value to me, and I don't think they are particularly collectible, but they are certainly functional. I've had these guns for years, they are just taking up space in my safe now. If I wanted to sell the whole lot (8-12 guns total) rather than piecemeal it, where would I go to get the best, fairest deal? Looking mostly in the central/North Sound area (Everett).

Can't help you with a location....but a couple things to think about.

1.  When you consign them, the only way you get them back if they don't sell is to do paperwork and wait 10 days.  A complete pain in the arse....and may even cost you a transfer fee.  Make sure you know what the terms are for consignment if that is the route you go.
2.  As of July 1, it is going to get real hard to find a gun shop that wants to deal with consignments.  A lot of gun shops are closing their doors.  Make sure you know the shop you go with will remain open as to not force a quick sale.
3.  Private party sales are a good way to go....but WA has made it so hard, that the prices of used firearms is low.  Transfer fees, state fees, communing cost (for the 10 day wait), etc. has just driven prices down.  You will almost definitely get a better price with private party sales in my opinion.....and even then you can expect to get 50-70% of the price of a used firearm depending on how desirable it is.  Obviously these are rough percentages and some may get more while others bring less.

I would suggest posting what you have here and see if there is any interest in the lot.

When I had my FFL I would buy lots from people that just wanted to get out of them at once. I would try to have a FFL look at them and see if they want to buy the lot. I usually did appraisals and told them what they were worth and then told them what I would offer just to take them off their hands. I was very generous as it wasn't my primary income. I usually cut 10-20% of the value to buy the lot and most did it to be done at once and not have to wait for them to sell one by one.

That's pretty much my intent, I'd like to be done with it and not have to deal with it for weeks or months on end...

I tried to sell a Browning X Bolt at Cabelas in great Condition. Guy offered me $199 for it. I choked. I told him how much I paid and he said there was no way I paid that much and he argued with me. At the time I had the receipt at home. He claimed the gun was much less new. And when I walked over to the gun counter they had it for sale new for $200 more than even I was saying I paid new. Sometimes I think they try to scam people there on used guns.

A big thanks to everyone who responded - I really wasn't  expecting the number of PMs and info that I got, but it is appreciated. I will get a list put together of what I have and let everyone who asked know about it, it'll just take me a minute because, of course, I'm in the middle of 16 different projects at the moment....

I may have some coming for sale also. What a pain. Can they  be sold out of state to avoid hassles?
