Rough year applying. I didn't draw a tag in six states. Some were shooting for the moon but others not so much. Glad i bout OTC tags in Idaho last December.

Got the email my wife didn't draw controlled deer, so hit the portal. I didn't draw controlled deer either, only thing I put in for other than the unlimited archery pronghorn which will be fun. Waiting in line to see if she drew a rifle pronghorn. She drew an elk tag last year and I'm just buyin a capped elk tag so we didn't put in for elk this year.

Elk plans solidified with a cow tag in my pocket and that allows me to solidify my deer plans as well. Back to looking for timber mulies during general season.

Never had 37a but had the sister tag right next door. Sheep, goat, elk and pronghorn country all rolled into 1. Cool place

IMO, that’s the funnest tag I’ve ever had in this state, including having a moose tag in my pocket a few years ago.

Put good tires on your vehicle before you go.

Here’s a stupid question I can’t find the answer to….Are the Youth Deer and Elk draw tags at the adult price, or are they at the Jr price if successful?

I think they would be at the youth price.  I just found out that I drew an ID-controlled elk tag and was charged the DAV price of $39 instead of $651 for a nonresident elk tag.

Yep, thanks. I was just able to confirm that too. My son Drew a Youth Elk Tag, but I was unsuccessful. So, unless I pick up a random Elk tag in the return sale I won’t be buying his tag since he wouldn’t be able to hunt it

I’m still trying to figure out just how excited to be here, but I’m pretty pumped. After striking out in Washington and Oregon, I was shocked to see I drew the November 1-15 Late Rifle Bull tag in unit 31 in Idaho. The good news for someone is that I’ll be turning back in my OTC Big Desert Archery tag.

I’d also love to hear from anyone who has had a rifle Brownlee (31) tag. I usually like to find my own spots unless someone just really wants to share general ends of the unit to look at, but would love to hear about others experiences in there. It’s seems like a long range shooters paradise with really high success and high % of 6pt bulls.

I would be there opening morning if you’re hunting the Pahsimeroi valley. My UPS route is out there and I haven’t seen any good bucks this year, just some OK ones and they will probably get shot fairly quick. The numbers seem down, overall. It will still be a slam dunk for her though.

Just remember you’ll be sharing the woods with rifle deer hunters and muzzy elk hunters during that season. Pretty sweet tag though. I’ve had some buddy’s take some nice bulls off of those September hunts the last couple years

Unit 11 any antlered deer!

I’m REALLY excited about this one, I’m even ok with folks saying the numbers are bad/worse than they were, I’m just excited to get out there.  I know the area fairly well and I think I have a game plan, I’ve hunted the area for whitetail for a few years and loved it. During those whitetail hunts I saw some big mule deer, so I started putting in for this tag, never really expecting to get it.

Edit to add:  also, congrats to all you other lucky Idaho tag drawers!  I wish great luck on everyone.

That is a cool tag, I have a buddy that has a shop/cabin up soldier meadows area. I have put in for it a number of times. Did you get the rut tag? Or more of the general season dates?

It is the early tag, which I’m real happy about cause I drew a decent WA tag also.  But I’m still pretty jacked up about it, maybe even a little more than the WA tag.  It’s only June and I have no business being THIS excited about hunting season this early.  My wife is sick of hearing about it  :chuckle:
