My 2024 Silverado Crew Cab that I bought new in December 2023 was $43,000. I didn't think that price was too terrible. But yes most new trucks are priced way too high for me to ever consider buying one.

I bought my 2015 F-350 new and they were around $70K.  I didn't want all the bells and whistles I just wanted a 4x4 diesel truck.  Since there were none in the PNW like I wanted my salesman suggested I order one.  Having never done this before we sat down he pulled up a menu and started asking me, you want this, what about this.....  after a million questions I had a truck on order, Friday after Thanksgiving.  Feb 2nd I was at the dealer picking up my truck.  With my employer discount that $70K truck was trimmed down to $50K with no trade in.

So if you don't want all the bells and whistles that the $100K trucks have maybe ordering exactly what you want will save you some money.

Back in 2008, I needed to replace my 1986 F250, 6.9 diesel. Loved that pickup! I wanted a V-10, due to the horrible disaster of the 6.0 diesel at the time.  Saw a 2004 F-350 on a lot in town, so I stopped to look figuring a pickup that new would be way out of my price range. It was the XL package, regular cab with the V-10, and 6 speed manual transmission. AC, cruise, CD player, 4x4, manual window and locks. This was just what I was looking for. Price in the window was $14,995. I told the salesmen, great pickup, but out of my budget. They encouraged me to drive it (of course) and that we were not to far apart on price. Drove it, liked it, took it back, rejected their offer and left. Got 5 min down the road and the phone rang. They said to come back, they would do the deal I asked for. I traded my 1986 truck, and signed the papers only financing $10,000 out the door. Still have that pickup, and it still runs and drives great.

I went and looked at a new Ford Raptor Type R yesterday and they were asking $135k for it.  Nice truck, but not looking to just throw money to the wind.

I went and looked at a new Ford Raptor Type R yesterday and they were asking $135k for it.  Nice truck, but not looking to just throw money to the wind.

If I could find one for msrp I’d probably make that upgrade. I bought a non r raptor in 2023 and had it shipped up from Iowa for 15-20k less than the dealers locally were charging.

Yes, half ton, 2.7 liter gas motor, 4 wheel drive but doesn't have low range.

17,000 miles on it now and 24 mpg average.

Traded in a 2012 GMC 2500 Crew 4X4 Duramax on a 2025 Chevrolet 2500 Crew LTZ Duramax in March and Paid Around $50k difference. New trucks are outrageous priced.

Hate to think how much they've gone up since I bought my first new vehicle in 1969 ( vw for 1900.00 new). Always wonder how so many can spend so much for a vehicle that is best suited for doing what is only about 5 percent of their actual driving milage ( off road hunting type driving) If you have to have one for work that's one thing, but spending that big money on a rig that's a terrible family or around town rig makes no sense to me. Have to chuckle when the gals in the office I checked in at would laugh and say " bigger the truck, smaller the p___s.

What's it mean if I drive a Subaru Crosstrek for my commuter?? 

All I know for sure is my wife's Subaru is better on snow and ice than any of the dozen 4X4's I've owned. 

I've toyed with getting one myself.

There are used Raptor R’s for sale on marketplace for more than new MSRP. Probably going to be a long search.

They have a transfer case. They just don’t have low range.
