The boy

Well, it's come to that time in my sons (step) life that he wants to hunt with me.  A week ago he told me he wants to go duck hunting with me, well, the little guy is pretty sensetive (doesn't like seeing animals die) so I told him to think long and hard about if he wants to come with me to kill animals and eat them.  We're headed out to Winston Creek in the a.m. to see if we can find any ruffs, maybe a head of elk or two.  Should be a nice quiet morning with my seven year old in tow.
It was so awsome tonight! He laid out all his clothes and was asking me if he needed to wear red clothes (hunter orange).  He asked me if he should bring a flashlight, "yep, your headlamp, just in case."  A month or two back I gave him my old-time case pocket knife, he asked if he should bring that too.  "Yep, stick it in yer pocket."  This kid is stoked....I went in to say goodnight to him a few minutes ago and he was still wide awake, hands clasped on his stomach...."I'm so excited!!!"  he said.
Thank God for putting this kids mom in my life.....

I'm sure a sensitive *censored*, no matter what you guys think.  I read your description and started forming tears.  Nothing better in a young ones life than a dad willing to take them out.  I'll have to post the pic sometime I have on the wall of Idabooner preparing to take me fishing for the first "official" time.  Goodluck to you both.  I'll send you a little Bone karma for a great day.

Good for you!  I wish I had a boy to share hunting with.  I vividly remember hunting with my dad.  It was about the only thing I did that reminds me of him, that is something he will remember the rest of his life, good job!

All my boys went through that sensitive time around 5-7, and they have all grown out of it...

Good Luck
God Bless,

awesome.  He'll out grow the sensitive stuff when he figures out out that critters are made out of steak, summer sausage and jerky!

Good luck to you.

My son is now 13 and he has been hooked on hunting since he was 2 when he went and sat in the blind and boat with his dad.  Although he hunts and kills and guts and eats animals, he is still a very compassionate kid when he see's something that is hurt or treated poorly.  Sensitivity is not a bad thing at all....... have fun.  There is something real special about seeing the little ones going off with their fathers learning to hunt and fish.

That is what makes a kid who hunts different. Especially a kid who has someone to show them that hunting is not just about killing. I think that we all transfer what we learn in hunting to the real world and that is what makes us good people.

Navyhunter, he will remember this always. Keep up the good work.
