We drug/floated it over to a little island where we could get it out of the water a little.  The bank was really steep everywhere, so we quartered it up on the island and packed it.  The good part was that it was probably the cleanest elk to ever be quartered and packed out.

Here's my early archery 09 bull.  You can't tell by the picture, but he is suspended off the ground by those viney maples.  It was really hard to get him out.  I used the gutless method and trying to roll him over was impossible.  I was alone and worked at it into the night and part way into the next day.  I had a 1 mile pack uphill.  But all the work was definetly worth it.  I was the happiest fat guy on the mountain.
