i have taken some pretty nice deer so these days trying to go for older mature deer this deer is around 3yrs old and would of made a great buck in two years.hes 17.5"inside spread.the land i hunt is private CRP fields.i found some nice tracks heading to a eyebrow with a couple trees in it and when i got there i saw rubs and scrapes so i hunkered down and started to rattle and grunt but the wind was so hard that i didnt think he would here it if he was upwind so i followed his trail to another big brow and started sneaking slow through the trees and a 1x2 caught me at 20 yds! i froze hit the grunt tube a few times and that little guy got all puffed up! he put his head down and started walking at me all stiff legged and hair up! the wind was probably 30mph in my face and this little guy came in to 15' of me started curling his lip at me and circling me to get down wind.i started to get worried that he wouldnt get down wind before we were face to face! ha. he had made about all the way around me and as soon as he caught wind his eyes doubled and he was out of there!that was pretty cool.while i was screwing around with this buck the big deer had heard the grunts and as i walked another 10ft he was coming out of the thicket at about 200yds.i dropped the pack and belly stalked about 40yds to a little pine and got setup.the buck had come about 30yds closer but stayed there because he had a doe with him.i used a branch to steady the gun and had only a front shoulder shot so i took it . the wind carried the bullet about 4"s to the left and drilled his neck and dropped him in his tracks.it was really a great hunt.
