elk area 3911
« on: December 10, 2009, 02:06:04 PM »
I just revieved my advanced hunter certification and was wondering if anyone had any advice on elk area 3911. I know the area well as my grandparents had a farm on cooke creek, but was wondering if you had some tips.
Thanks

You have a east or west side elk tag? dont think you can hunt it with a west side elk tag.  lots of area up there but is hit and miss when theyll be there.

THere are a few private property areas around coleman as well.  You usually can get permission if ya ask.

Call he local hunt master and he will have the best info. I haven't seen many elk in the ranchers fields yet this year, and I refuse to hunt elk on the states land inside of the boundry, but I have some permission wrpped up and now it is just a waiting game. Also there is a link on the WDFW page that will give you all of the current info, usually a week or two old though.

You can definitely kill elk in the public land between the fields and the boundary.  But, as said above, it is a crap shoot trying to be there when they are.  Best bet is to get some private property permission.  It isn't much of a hunt in most places.  You either catch the elk down where they aren't supposed to be or you don't.  Depends on what you are into.

That big chunk of land on Cle Elum Ridge is kinda tied up.  Most is private land owned by timber company, this fall they have started to ask the Kittitas County Sheriff to start enforcment for tresspassing.  No motor vehicles except snowmobile allowed on most of roads up there.

Pray for the weather and a set of fresh tracks, that's 90%. The other 10% is yours...

Good Luck and shoot straight
